PTSD treatment tank

I live up here in Washington just outside of Ft Lewis. Nothing like sitting out on your back porch and listing to Arty and the Mortars impact. Then hear someone rocking on the 240B. I miss packing and firing that thing.

Hey fishkeeper. I'll be following along. I'm just down the road in DuPont. Send me a PM if you need anything. I'm on crutches presently, so I won't be much help moving things for a while, but I'll do what I can.

Well I came home from work today to see some boxes by my front door. I guess what I ordered has made it.

Well this is what was inside them.
Box one was my pump. I going with the Diablo 10500 DC pump. I really hope that it works out for this tank. And in box two was some gate valves.

And the largest box was my new sump with the built in calcium reactor.

But now the joy of things have come to a total stop for right now. Nothing like working for the government at this time. Yes I am still working but I'm working for a IOU. So I guess when they figure things out I will get paid. But until then I have to watch where I spend my money so I can make it last. Oh well that's fine it just gives me time to do some more planning on what I need to do or what I want to do.

Hi halmus, nice to meet you. If I do need anything I sure will give a yell for you. Are you any good at aquascaping? I think that is my weak point and I really suck at stacking rocks to make them look good.

I consider myself moderately good at aquascaping. I try to avoid 'scapes that look unnatural and do everything to keep rocks from piling on the bottom where they trap debris. I've also made the mistake of putting too much rock in at start-up and wishing later that I had more room for coral. There a different styles that people strive for. That comes down to preference. When the time comes, we can try to set up a time and I can help you if you want a hand. But, it's good to do a little research and find out exactly what you're looking for aesteticly. Check out Ching Chai's tank, David Saxby's, Peter's, .... There are a ton of great builds happening right now, or that have been great sources of inspiration. You get an idea what other people's approach is and what you might be looking for. I'm reading a few articles right now:

I can see it in my head how I want it. I guess I just need to sit down and draw it up. But I am going to go with dry rock so I can have time to play around with it until it gets just right. As for the style I would like to go with a good open layout.

Well I also got the stand moved into the house where I will start on some plumbing. Maybe in the next day or two I will get the tank on it. For size of the upgrade that is my 40 breeder in the background.

I haven't had any bad experiences with any particular brand of heater. I've been using Finnex Titanium heaters without any trouble. But, I have been running a controller on my system as backup to make sure the aquarium never overheats (shutting off the outlet) or fails to heat (by sending me a message). I've never had either of those two cases happen, but it's nice to have the peace of mind.

My only recommendation is stay away from glass heaters. They're a nightmare waiting to happen.

This is a little late for a response, because you probably already went shopping today. What did you get?

Well nothing like getting 6 guys from Guam to come help me move my tank into my house. They were telling me what to put in it so when it gets big enough they can come get it to eat.

I also got my first livestock in the tank today. Nothing like having a catfish looking for a meal.

Yeah the problem with this cat is he likes the water. He will jump in the bathtub with my daughter all the time. He gets in it and just swims around the bathtub. He even does it with my freshwater tank but the funny thing is he doesn't even go after any of the fish. I have only seen him once in the salt tank. I guess the corals are sharp and hurts his feet that is the only reason I can think of why he doesn't get into it more.

Well time to do some rethinking on my plumbing. I was looking at the drain and return pipes this evening. Well on the bulkhead it has glued hose barb on the bottle of it. I was going to hard plumb it all but I guess since they are glued I might see if I can get some flex spa hose for the drain lines. As for the returns I will stick with my plan for the most part with a manifold then after the "T" to go up to the bulkhead then get some barbs to go with some soft lines. Time to do some planning and drawing up things on some paper I guess. So much for getting the drain lines done tonight.

Woops I should read before I post. Sorry for the wrong words and spelling. I guess I have had three to many hard ciders.
