Public aquarium emergencies

Hi everyone. After dealing with power outages from hurricain sandy it made me think what happens to public aquariums during emergencies? Lets say the power goes out. Do they just use a larg generator? What about a crack in the glass or a pipe leading to or from the tank clogs? How do they deal with these situations and never seem to have problems?

They have many staff paid to keep things in track, not like us where we have a full time job and a portion of whats left over goes to our tank. And yes they use generators.

NY Aquarium fared surprisingly well during Sandy: not because of generators or staff though (much of the facility was submerged), mostly due to good fortune and a rather odd quirk of physics that prevented mixing in their (open-top) tanks despite being completely submerged.

Wow thats crazy about the eel, poor koi. Seems like alot of it was left to luck. What about if one of the aquriums ocean tanks glass cracked or sprung a leek?

In general public aquariums have large back up generators to handle electrical outages. Life support plumbing typical has enough redundancy to handle problems, not to mention dedicated professional staff on call 24/7 to deal with emergencies ;)

China or Japan just had a large shark aquarium in a mall burst out of nowhere. A bunch of people were instantly injured. How does the mall deal with a catastrophe like this? They clean up the mess, help the injured people, and publically stated they will not be putting a replacement aquarium in the mall! Its rare, but big problems do happen to public aquariums / tanks
