Public Aquarium suggestions needed

We are planning a weekend long get away. Online searches came up with the Pittsburgh Aquarium, NJ's Atlantis, or maybe a trip to Boston.

We figure we'll have 2 days of driving time and one day of actual Aquarium viewing....unless we can find some cheap, direct flights to lessen the travel time.

Let's hear of your favorite North East Aquarium/Zoos!!!

If there are younger children going, the Camden aquarium is great - several hands-on exhibits and some very cool up close and personal stuff. If it's just adults, you can do better.

Tagging along as I'm also thinking about a trip with my kids to a good zoo or aquarium.

If you like sharks, Camden is a must. Otherwise, I prefer New England overall and there you can fit in a whale watching trip from their dock for your big animal fix and have lunch at Legal Seafood right there.

If you do Camden, you really have to go into Philly for anything else (like decent food). New England is set on a pier right in trhe middle of Boston Harbor which is full of other cool things to do.

Atlantis is sweet.
But questionable what else your going to do there unless you plan
a hampton getaway or visit to NYC.

Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is really nice and there are other places in PA to visit as well.

Suggestion:
Consider OHIO. Lots of great Aquariums/Zoos and amusement parks.
The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium is really nice in Columbus, Ohio. Has amusement rides for kids and a waterpark called Zoombezi Bay waterpark. The aquarium is a sight to see. Website: www.colszoo.org

Also the Cleveland Aquarium. In Cleveland, Ohio is A world class aquarium. Website: www.clevelandaquarium.org

Ohio is full of fun. Depending on where you want to go.
Theres also the "coaster capital of the world" Cedar Point.

and don't forget the rock n roll hall of fame www.rockhall.com if your into that sort of thing.

Greeat suggestion folks! Taking a closer look at New England as it's been years and years since I've been to Boston...I think the children would enjoy the whale watching tour as well as their Aquarium, (their parents would REALLY enjoy some fresh seafood as well!)

Wow, the Pittsburgh Zoo/Aquarium looks really nice. With my kids, it probably makes sense to turn it into a 2-day trip. Cleveland could actually be a legitimate family vacation.

If you end up going new england way,
definetly enjoy the Lobster bisque.
Seafood should be a plenty and prices(at least in the right spots I am told)
are quite cheap!

Where hotdogs vendors/"carts" are common here in NY-
Lobster/seafood carts are quite common in coastal new england areas!

i'll throw baltimore/dc into the mix. there are nicer aquariums out there, but having dc/baltimore 40 minutes apart makes it a viable option. most of dc is free and the metro makes travel easy and hasel free.

6 hours to the NEA from Rochester.

Next best (actually better) is the National Aquarium in Baltimore BUT it's a longer drive.

Don't forget Atlantis on Long Island. You can show the kids the Big Apple as you pass through it.

I would suggest a trip to Atlantis Marine World on Long Island, I am a very big fan. Once you are there, there is a ferry that will take you across Long Island Sound and drops you off just minutes from The Maritime Aquarium in Connecticut. I've never been there but a college coworker of mine is now the Jellyfish curator there and she says they have some really amazing exhibits right now.

my fav in the surrounding area is definitely Baltimore. Camden is ok if you have kids or you've never been there, but after you go once, you really don't need to go again. Boston Seaquarium is pretty cool also.

New England in Boston is very nice. If you have kids under 12ish you should check out the Children's museum it is excellent

Just went to Boston. It was very cool, a lot of people recommended the duck tour I missed it because of weather but if you do go to Boston it is worth checking into.
