puffer chewing rocks

Oh my ... that is so cute just to read it not even seeing it :lol2: If my tank were bigger I would get one like yours.
heres a pic of him and if you look at the rocks you can see all the white marks where he has chewed.. this is all over the tank you can see little pieces that he has spit out on the bottom of the tank and on the rock as well. close up you can see the little tooth marks on the rock

The chewing is normal, and as stated previously is a way for him to keep his beak trimmed down. I don't have any coraline algae yet due to my lights and low Mag levels, so I crush clams and make him "work" to get the meat out. I have read they will pick all your coraline algae away like candy
We love our puffer, as do all guests at our house that are non-fish people.

(I've already been scolded by the puffer police from lifting him from the water briefly, but he has been so relaxed and calm I hoped he wouldnt puff up, and he didn't. He won't be played with too much anymore......he is loving his new home!)

My Toby would refuse to eat clams, snails, hermits, or any other kind of crab. He still would eat krill but turned his nose up at table shrimp. He chewed on my rocks every now and then and when he was done his teeth were nice and short. No big deal at all unless you don't like what he is doing to the rock. I had one puffer that even refused to chew on rocks so I had to handle him and trim his teeth with nail clippers. Only had to do it a few times. That was way back in the day when I kept freshwater Puffers and I realize now that the environment he was in was just too stressful for him.
