I just purchased a used Iwaki WMD 40 RLXT pump and set it up with my downdraft skimmer. I'm pretty sure that a bearing is going bad. It is making a loud screeching noise that seems to be louder than normal sound. Any recommendations on replacing a bearing or how long a pump lasts with a bad bearing.

Changing a bearing and seal is not all that tough, but you shouldn't have to do it unless the seller told you about it upfront.
I am the type of person that just takes the hit, but again, you shouldn't have to. I would suggest that you contact the seller before doing anything and see if you can reach an agreement.

Hello, I sold him the pump. Iwaki American motor pumps are noisy. When I ran it, there were no baring issues that I suspected.
Bulk Reef Supply measured the noise at 80 decibels. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/video/view/iwaki-and-panworld-external-pumps/. Here's a a chart with examples of 80 decibels.
Garbage disposal, dishwasher, average factory, freight train (at 15 meters). Car wash at 20 ft (89 dB); propeller plane flyover at 1000 ft (88 dB); diesel truck 40 mph at 50 ft (84 dB); diesel train at 45 mph at 100 ft (83 dB). Food blender (88 dB); milling machine (85 dB); garbage disposal (80 dB). 80 2 times as loud as 70 dB. Possible damage in 8 h exposure.
It always ran flawlessly for me, and It does pump a lot of . Pumps over MD4s are loud. anything lower doesn't need a cooling fan.
At any rate, if you feel it had bearing issues, I'll be more than happy to give you yor money back. LMK

I know this is not a sound from a loud pump. It is a high pitched, grinding sound. If you would like to stop over and hear it yourself, you're welcome to. The pump runs good but the sound is unbearable. I don't know how much it would cost to replaced the bearing but I cannot run it as it is.
