Pump with auto shutoff valve

Hi !

I have a doubt that perhaps you can clear me:

I have a pump that is always pulling water from my aquarium to the chiller.

In case of an energy failure although the pump is stopped it will continue to pull water from the aquarium (because it is pulling from the aquarium to the refrigeration unit which is underneath the aquarium) .What I would like have is an "auto-shut off" mechanism that would stop any kind of water flow in case of energy failure.

Do you no of any pump or device that can be used to shut-off water extraction in case of power failure or disconnection ?

Yes, a small hole drilled in the line just below the normal level water surface.

The issue here is that the pump that is extracting water form the aquarium is at the sump behind the aquarium (redesea max) at a very deep level (the aquarium is designed to have the pump ate this level)), so in case of a power failure the pump with continue to siphoning the water.....

Unless we're misunderstanding your question, Freed is correct. Assuming the pump has lost electricity and water is continuing to flow due to syphon action, a small hole in the line, just below the normal water level, will break the syphon - no matter how far down into the tank the line extends.

Yes you are absolutely right (I didn't understood) doing a small hole on the pipe just bellow water level will stop siphoning (it will break the "vacuum" effect of the siphoning).
