Purple Anemone

I think this is a good example for people who claim large anemones have to be a hundred years old :)

It is obviously clear that even a very small anemone can become quite large in a short period of time.

What kind of lighting is everyone using?

I'm probably going to keep my 72 and use the 250 watt MH bulbs. (Maybe Radiums or EVC 14000K's)

Not sure if this was addressed to me or not but....

When I had them in my 58 I used 2*250 + 2*96 PC (( it was a while ago, but I want to say I was using the 20K XMs back then ))

When I had them in my 29 (( and then my 33 cube )) I used a single 250 Phoenix bulb.

Oh, it was addressed to everyone, Todd :) how did u like the xm's? I heard they didn't have great par.

LOL

The 15K XMs have poor PAR, and depending on the ballast, the 20Ks have equal or higher PAR. I liked them, but am using Radiums now, which I like better. Not a huge difference b/t them, but enough that I don't mind spending more for the Radiums.

flyyyguy,
If I do recall you had posted that the anemone you posted was a Hiatin Reef Anemone! It sure looks like one but not to for sure!Just let me know!

My H. malu. Purple and carrying eggs. The green on is the male. They spawned once already. I got my timing down and hope to be able to raise some babies next time. My observation indicated that H. malu is a species that reproduce by internal fertilization (like report of S. gigantia). She released the babies at night between 48-60 hrs after spawn. I was not able to save any. They got chew up by the pump

Just got the Radiums in the mail today  and they're amazing. I'm excited to finally get some good looking anemones in there.

The purple color in those is beautiful. I think after I get a lighting upgrade I will be in the market for one.

Well i've had a PC fixture over my 120 gallon tank for about 8 months now. It's great for watching the fish, but pretty worthless for growing any kind of coral. Since the price of LEDs is still pretty high, I think i'm gonna start off with dual 250 halides and then decide where to go from there. That will at least get me to the point where i can start moving some stuff from my frag tank into my main setup and have it survive.
