Purple Long Tantacle Anemone Care

I agree with the info in the link provided by shock. I have had a green one in my BC29 for 2 years. The tank is specifically setup for the LTA. The paired false percs I have in the tank never go near it. I was hoping they would but knew it was doubtful. I had a yellow tailed damsel that went mia after a couple years in the tank a few days ago. I suspect it got to close to the LTA.

Give it plenty of room to expand. Mine is set in deep sand but it is happy to live in the rock work with its foot in the sand. The LTA is under a 150w Mh. Typical reef tank maintenance required. Feed it a couple times a week is beneficial but there have been times I have not directly fed mine for months. But I can tell a difference in size and color when it is being fed directly. Mine has not moved from the place I setup for it since day 1. I think the reason is due to my setup. 1st I set it in a clear plastic bowel with 3" sand in it. This was placed in a cove like rock formation with moderate water flow going into the cove or basically into the oral disc of the LTA. The water flow brings food to the LTA plus I think it helps to have water flowing into the oral disc instead pushing on the back or sides of the LTA.

Do any of you have a Purple LTA? Can you post its picture?
I want to see how the color looks like once it's tabled in your tank.

Thanks,

These are the 2 that I just bought.

lta's like sand to bury their foot in and most will stay put of years if their happy. I'm not sure that I've ever saw a red one before. Can you take some more pics of it for me, it kinda looks like a bta the way its in the rock.

nice red LTA. i seen them couple time, just never pull the trigger. how long you have it? did it stay the red color since you got it? or did it shift?

bjledbetter, I took those pictures when the nems in the store. It is a lta. They both burry their red feet into the sand now.
I post pics of them in the near future when they are settle down.

ClownNut, I just have them since Friday. I didn't plan to buy them but their colors attracted me. I will post some pics of them latter when they are settle down.

One thing that worries me is I've never had a LTA before, and they are in the same system with a Red Haddoni, and a Blue Gig.

they do grow fast, just limited how much food they get. last time i have a LTA, once settle it wont move, but it grow so large i have to kick it out. i have a friend have tube, mini maxi, LTA, BTA, sebae, haddon, ritteri, and gig for as long as i can recall.(at least 7 years) dont seem bother the haddons(red/blue/green) they all have their spots. only red haddon do an around the tank tour once awhile. everything else stand put. he's old school still only use MJ with foam cover and carbon in a bag.
love to see how the red LTA color do in long term.

Thanks ClownNut. Do you have a picture of a Red (Rose) LTA in a reefer tank? I hope it will keep or getting better in term of color.

The purple is stunning and what I really wanted before I purchased my green one. I just didn't want to pony up the $$$ for a purple one. I have keep BTAs for years and currently have a nice rose in my 135. I had read LTAs were more difficult to keep then BTAs and figured I would prefer to take my chances with a cheaper more common color one. In the end and my personal experience is LTAs are as easy if not easier to care for then BTAs. As I previously stated I have mine in a BC29 dedicated to the needs of the LTA. It has doubled in size in the 2 years I have had it but it by no means has out grown the system. That said I do not keep anything in the tank with it I fill could be harmed by it. I do have some maxi mini nems and other frilly srums. They will touch each other but have caused no harm. The only loss I can not positively blame on the LTA I have had in the system would be a yellow tail damsel. Otherwise my LTA has been a model citizen.

Here is my green one in my BC29. This picture is a bit older and I have since removed the LPS just to make sure there was no harm done to them. But as I stated before the LTA, Maxi minis and the frilly mushroom all play good together.

Disregard the red arrows in the picture this was the only pic I had. I had used it in another post showing the Faux sandbed from the real sand bed. So the nem is sitting on a Faux sand bed but in a 3" deep plastic container full of sand.

little bonus :D
dollabela wander into her ~ twice a week and I have to remove her manually, but still alive.
most of the time there is no part visible, but I can tell when macrodactyla is trying to eat something :D
