Purple LTA needs help

I have had this anemone for three weeks. It started deep purple. But since it has been caught in the Vortech MP10 twice he is bleached. His mouth is closed. He used to stay in one spot for a few days with the Vortechs on then one night he would move. Twice I have gone downstairs to find him stuck to the Vortech. The vortechs are off. He is growing new tentacles. He is 7-8 inches long and 6 inches wide.

I do 10% water changes weekly.
Phosphates, nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are 0.

Tank is 5 months old but live rock is over a year old. RBTA is doing great in tank. He has grown in the two months that I have had him. Just the LTA isn't. Problem is he keeps moving and won't stay in one spot. Now he is just sitting in the middle of the tank. Tentacles out. At night he goes to a corner top outand tentacles towards tank wall. When lights come back on he turns around. He is getting more purple but he is still very bleached.

Any suggestions?

You need to have a deep sand bed to keep LTA's. Their entire base needs to be buried in the sand. That is more than likely your problem

What's the story with the bleached BTA in the background? Do you have any anemones in your system that are NOT bleached? Are you sure you have the proper environment to keep healthy anemones? The anemone in the foreground does not look injured so much as starving.

The rbta in the background isn't bleached thats how he looked in the owners tank. If he is bleached he has been bleached for over a year.

He shouldn't be starved I feed them raw shrimp a couple of times a week. If he doesn't look injured to you, you should look again. The tentacles in the front of the picture have just nubs. They have just started to grow back from getting chopped off by the power head.

The RBTA is definitely bleached. There are a bunch of non bleached ones in the link below.

Here is a crappy pic of mine. The flash washed out the color a little. It is actually a deeper red color than than the pic shows.

both nems def dont look to good

what type of lights do you have?
do you feed them both if they take food?

and you definitely need more sand its probably going all over the place because it cant find a spot to bury its foot
oh and double check params + salinity + temp

Thank you for the responses.

Salinity is 1.025. Temp is a problem it is 81 degrees. I have a fan running now.

Lights are 250w mh. Wow,the rbta is bleached! How do I help him? He does eat every other day a large piece of shrimp.

I did bury the LTA. It has been a few hours and he hasn't moved out of it. Only adjusted his tentacles. His mouth is still closed. He is tough. I guess he has to be with me as his care keeper.

And of course I don't have the covers for the vortechs. I will have to order some.

What else can I do?

Oh what a terrible picture jk!! What's with the self deprecation?:sad2:

Flash washed out or not, still a nice shot imo.

And to RJT, they may be bleached, I wouldn't know, but they are lucky have a care giver who will attentive enough to find help. I'm sure they will be looking beautiful in no time. Good luck.

Thanks badbreath

Pfan151-I have a lot of sand in the tank. It is still enough to cover him and for the rest of the tank. I pulled it from other areas of the tank and smoothed it out. I have wrasses so I have to a fair amount of sand.

With my lta I was able to turn my mp40's back on after a couple hours, but that lta was in my frag tank for months before its foot finally got sticky and could be put in the main tank and they like a pretty deep sand bed and like to be the the base od your rocks in the sand with a lower amount of flow on them.

I haven't touched his foot, but his tentacles are very sticky. He is under the mp10 so I will move the powerhead to a higher point so it won't effect him. The other vortech is across the tank and I have a rock blocking its flow to the lta.

I can wait awhile for the vortechs, I have hydors on 24 7 for the sps that doesn't bother the lta.

In a few days I might turn on the vortechs on its lowest levels.

The restlessness that caused your LTA to move around in the first place may be because of an interaction with the other anemone. These two don't do very well in the same closed system. If you want to keep them both, you should at least run some carbon in the system.

Good advice. Thank you. I have a reactor that I stopped using. I will get some carbon while I'm out today.

How did you bury the foot? It looks like your sand is only about an inch thick?

Pfan I don't think this guy is interested in advice that he doesn't want to receive :) I stop offering it when the person asking for advice keeps tell you how wrong you are :)
