I just bought a tiny Purple LTA (~2.5 in diameter) and it wont settle anywhere. It ate a tiny silverside yesterday and other then that it looks perfect. Anyone have any tips to get it to settle?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Funny enough I just got one too. For the most part it settled in nicely, but one of the powerheads would push it around --- is too small to get it foot all the way to the bottom glass of the tank.

I redirected the powerheads and put some rock ruble around it to help keep it in place.

mine is too small to get it foot to the bottom as well, but mine isnt being blown around by powerheads and it still wont settle

any ideas

I got a slightly larger one (3.5") 9 days ago. It's expanding well & eating mysis every other day or so, and hasn't moved from the spot I put it in, but hasn't attached.

Over the last couple of days, I'm seeing more & more stuff (sand & rubble) stuck to the bottom of its foot, so I'm hoping it will attach soon.

In other words, no advice...but let's see whose attaches first....:)

Success!!! I think....

When I first put the LTA in my tank, I made a depression in the sand about 3" wide by 1" deep right next to some live rock, and buried a clam shell a few inches below the sand, so it could pick either one.

It has been rolling around a bit, showing its foot, but stayed in the same spot.

Tonight I got a bit impatient and pushed some sand around its foot, forcing it closer to the LR. Most of the foot was still exposed.

Four hours later....the foot is completely covered, and I can see part of it under the LR. The nem is fully expanded, and the tentacles are just at the top of the sand...much deeper than when I covered the foot.

Keep your fingers crossed for me...(and the 'nem!)

PS Yes that's red slime...it's slowly going away. And yes, that purple shroom probably doesn't have long to live :)

Yea, yours looks pretty good. My small one is pretty much settled in and hasn't moved at all. Eats pretty good too.

Don't have a close up, but can see it here. The clowns haven't found it yet, but have only had them for a week now.

And for size reference, it is on the right middle, of this shot. This is my 29.

garygb,
You were right...two days later, it's wedged tightly between two rocks!

That means I've been able to add some more flow, to help with the red slime. Surprisingly, it hasn't killed the purple mushroom just to its left, although its tentacle touch it regularly.

I'm going to change out my lighting later this week for more blue, so hopefully it will look more purple and less brown :)

Todd, what are you going to do when they take over your tank?

While feeding it, I discovered that there's a a nice-size (at least 4") bristleworm living in the mushroom rock. It tried (unsuccessfully) to steal its food. Should I worry about the bristleworm?

That is a good question Lance. ;)

I think in time I am going to have to sell one. I currently have 2 haddonis and 3 LTAs (( over 3 tanks )). I will never get rid of the Haddonis, one is yellow/green and I've had it for 7+ years, so can't let that one go, the other is blue, and can't get rid of that one, love the color.

So, I guess I am not really sure yet. But, I can't get another tank, so will have to do something in the future.
