Well in all honesty I think your sps look amazing and your sps have amazing color. Your purple monster looks superb, what more could anyone ask for? I wish my tank looked half as nice. Congrats on achieving a level that most of us reefers wish we had. I had the purple monster years back and it was really not as purple as yours. Again congrats on an amazing tank wish it was mine. Have you tried craving a piece and trading or giving it to a freind of yours that has halides or T5 to see if they get deeper purple coloration? From what I have read when they reach a Particular size they crap out. Lets hope this is not the case here, but I would defiantly would test a piece under someone else lighting to see if LEDs really can't keep purple.
Good luck and you have a spectacular aquaria

Not trying to say its not a true PM but mine and most that I have seen that are real have white polyps. Yours seem to have green and the shape of the coralites also looks different. But thanks for sharing and if its real then radion G1 will not do the trick for this sps. I to also have a G1 with TIR lens what a bummer if this is true.
Thanks for sharing

It doesn't look anything like PM to me either, but maybe it is the lights. I have never seen a PM growth pattern like that, every one that I have seen is christmas-tree-like. Can't you trace the lineage back to Tyree - if not then, it is a clone, at best.

If it is PM, then that is the only evidence that I need to show that LED is no replacement for HQI.

dont let that change your thoughts about LEDS. i changed and will never go back.........

Hey Mr. Pluto, your tank is looking awesome as it did when I met you about 5-6 months back. We figured out that the aquarium was actually mine at one point.

Have you noticed comparable growth with the LEDs long term? I've been running a Kessil a350w over my 35 gallon and have seen excellent colors but only good growth on a few SPS. I'm thinking about going back to radiums again or possibly t5's. I'll wait at least another few months just to see if growth takes off.

Hello, Taylor, hope the frags are doing fine. Growth is good for some, slow for
others, just like Halides, i think it takes a acclimation period before things
start humming. i just can't pull the trigger on kessils yet. i don't know why.

Thanks. how many radions are you using?

i don't know, i use to keep track when i was using Zeo, but now i never
dose Potassium, & i do not have a kalium test kit any more. do you think i'm low?

If you were dosing K while running Zeo, assuming K was being depleted, why did you stop dosing K? Low K is not only related to the Zeo method. I will also note, that low K does not affect all systems running ULNS. A salt with good K numbers (380-400ppm) should maintain K. Are your green corals a deep green or tan/light green? I monitor my Acropora Simplex as an indicator to determine whether my K is low.

I lost the purple monster to a heavy alk swing a few months after having it. Everything else is doing awesome! Let me know if you have any frags for sale, I'd love to come take another look at the tank

i ran Zeo 3 tanks ago, so thats not an issue. not running ulns either, my season greetings monti is really bright green. green formosa's real bright also
my levels are <8.0 alk CA = 400 po4 = .05 hanna mag 1300 ppm nitrate < 1 i'm using GFO & macro Algae & "Gasp" "Miracle Mud"

Cool. The other thing I would consider is cutting the GFO by 25% and monitor your colors. GFO is notorious for stripping colors.

Mr. Pluto

I would really like to learn more from you about your tank. Can you post your build thread if you have one. If not c. You start a thread about your practices and your set up? Also what light fixture are you running?
Thanks Michael

How long has it been? I found that LED would do a good job "showing off" SPS that got their color under halides, but did a horrible job long term. ...meaning, over time the colors got horrible.

BTW - that is an awesome tank. Why would your risk switching lights?

I've noticed the exact opposite. Almost everything I get out of tanks with halides looks washed for a few weeks after going into my tank. After a few weeks they color up and look great under the leds.

well, i went with a smaller tank so heat was a issue. after dropping over 1800 watts of halides & vhos + chiller. a few 39watt bulbs won't matter to me i may build hood to house
the t5s. i have 30X30 to work with. the deal is i don't want to buy another led system that was the unit before the the next big thing. on another note:
i'll try dropping a hour of white light a day & dose more amino's to darken the corals a bit. majority of my sps i'm happy with the color, just a couple of oldies i wish were better.

Probably just dosing aminos would work here. acropower
