Purple Tang Prices??

When the purple tangs are stocked at the big wholesalers they are kept in tiny cubes. The fish don't do well and they break out with HLLE very quickly.

I've found that these fish turn right back around very quickly. In my outside refugium tank lit with just sunlight they HLLE heals up in less than a week.

In my display tank (same water) with artificial light and feeding just Romaine lettuce in a community tank with lots of other tangs it takes about two weeks or so for the lateral line to clear up.

They are super hardy fish. As great looking as they are in the aquarium, outside in the sunlight their colors are stunning.

Holy smokes, you're still around!? It's been a while, I hope all is well your way!

it has nothing to do with middle east or red sea, cause the prices are still the same 50-60 here in Canada ...

I cant understand why everything alive is so much more expensive in USA.

Hey Jeremy,

Yep I am still keeping my hands wet. Had a couple of slow years due to the economy where the tank was ignored. But things started turning around last year, and the tank began its revival at the same time. Tank is well stocked with both fish and corals.

Still have all the equipment and sumps outside, and have the itch to setup more outside tanks.

It actually has everything to do with the location and the Middle East. You live in Canada and you don't have the same trade laws that the US has. For animals coming from there they have to be double shipped, meaning nothing from that area can be directly imported to the US. So they have to be shipped to a country that can import from that region and can export to the US. That, drives the price up and less purple tangs survive the extra shipment. So the double shipment plus the amount of loss will drive up the price of the purple tang, along with other Red Sea animals.
