my friend bought a purple tube anenome and placed it in his substrate. he went to the lfs a few days later and they told him they didnt carry it because it was very toxic. unfortunatley he did not ask him other questions about it.

i was wondering if he meant it was very toxic if it died or if it leaked toxins into the water. also, does this anenome a danger to coral? thanks in advance.

My daughter has had a purple tube anemone for 3 years and it is one of her favorite critters:) To my knowledge it is not toxic but does pack a powerful sting. It needs to be fed small particulate like cyclopeeze or small meaty items several times a week. They will slowly starve if not target fed. They just get smaller and smaller......if starving. They are beautiful and some people recommend a species tank for them but my daughter has had hers in a large reef for quite some time now. Fish that get stung do not die but learn to avoid it once stung:) Keep it away from other coral too:) Hope this helps.....
