Putting together my "future" 75 AGA RR (progress)

Wendy. Love the additions to the tank. It keeps getn better and better. I love the color on the hairy mushroom. The tank is headn for TOTM!

Thank you Brandon, Shawn, and Travis. :) I am SO SO happy with the progress of my tank, I really am.

So much so that I'm spending WAYYYY too much time in front of it.

I've come to the conclusion that my fish "know" me because as soon as I approach they all come forward. Yep, I've got some very smart fish. ;)

And they've got a very smart keeper, one whom they've already started to spoil!

:D

I just had to check and see when you started this thread. My god Wendy. From 2/27 till now you have created an unbelievable tank. Anyone who is interested in doing a tank the right way needs to follow your thread and progress. I know I am, and I thank you, travis and others for all the help, guidance, and support. Keep up the good work.

Brandon, yes - you hit the nail right on the head.

Thank you very much, Shawn. I honestly can't believe how I've progressed. Everyone's doing great, too. My parameters are fantastic, and I haven't dosed in over a week. :eek2:

I'm still trying to get the hang of taking better pictures though. Here are a few samples of the ones I took a little while ago:

Here fishy, fishy, fishy:

My spotted Cole Tang (what an unbelievable algae eater!) Oh, and he eats other stuff, too. :)

Wow. Lookn good. I love the zoa's. How many critters did you use to clean up the algae?

Thanks, Shawn - I really am obsessed though. :mixed:

Let's see, how many critters: (the amount is approximate because I didn't buy them all at once, only as needed)
2 Mexican Turbos
8 Nassarius snails
8 Cerith snails
15 Astreas
4 tiny blue-legged hermits
2 scarlet hermits
1 Queen Conch (lasted less than 48 hours due to Ms. Munchkin, which is now gone)
...and various snails were eaten by Ms. Munchkin, too. :(

I have many tiny brittle stars in my tank, too. They must have come with the rocks because I didn't buy a single one. But they don't do algae, they clean the detritus. :)

I hope I didn't forget anything.
Seriously though, once I added the Cole, I was honestly astonished to see how quickly the algae was getting less and less.

Of course I'm on my second Bicolor Blenny now. Remember, Ms. Munchkin ate the first one. :(

That doesnt sound to bad. I have seen packages where they go crazy with the number of snails and crabs. Yours sounds about what I would like to have. Not to many, but enough to get the job done. Are you planning on another conch? I love the cowrie's. They look sooo cool.

Yes, I am planning on another - if I ever find one again. My surrounding pet shops don't get them in on a "regular" basis, but the one closest to me (awesome guy!) told me he'd order and hold one for me. But he can't tell me how long it'll take before they send one.

I'm also planning on getting a ruby bristlestar. I have one somewhere in the tank, but he's only about 1". I found him in my sump along with the caulerpa, and once I fished him out and placed him in the display I never saw him again. :(

As of last week I have some shrimp, too.
1 cleaner shrimp
1 boxing shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp

They all molted already, and apparently all within 2 nights of each other. When I found the first exskeleton I was stunned for a split second because it looked just like the cleaner shrimp himself. Then I realized he had molted, and it was only the skin.

Oh, and I have 2 Emerald Crabs, too. Love them! They are constantly foraging through the rocks, eating algae and left-over food.

I'm not sure whether I mentioned it or not in my thread, but 2 weeks ago I had a pod explosion (Isopods and Copepods). They were all over my glass, in my sump, in the overflow. I didn't have to feed my fish during that time because they were having a fiesta with them. I still have them, but not nearly as many. Now I have an overabundance of amphipods (sp.). They're in the sand, and my fish are loving those, too. :D

just spent.. well who knows how long reading through this thread (great coverage btw). I just picked up a 65 gal and begain building the stand. You mentioned you "didn't skimp on lighting" (among a few other things). I may have just missed it, but what type of lighting did you go with exactly?

thanks!

Yes, even I am a little amazed with the pace. I wouldn't necessarily advocate going this fast, but Wendy has managed to do it just right at the pace the tank is ready for. As you can see, anyone can have a beautiful tank in a relatively short period of time and have it set up properly. She didn't rush it (much ;) I'll forever tease you about that), it's been 2.5 months to get Wendy's tank the way it is. She may have spent a little more money up front getting a good lighting fixture and such, but in the long run she'll save a LOT of money not having to re-buy things and upgrading.

Travis, thank you. Yep, I definitely deserve to be teased for the rest of my life about my "not" so clever decision on (one of) my first addition(s).

Time for another update. Tank is doing great, and the household is being neglected due to the fact I can't tear myself away from the tank for a long period of time. :rolleye1:

New additions.

Really looking good Wendy. Looks like 2 to 3 additions per week. I cant wait to see it all when the growth starts to kick in. Better start doing some research on fragging. :-)

Thanks a bunch. :)
Talking about fragging, I "fragged" my first mushroom 11 days ago. I made 3 little ones out of it, and they are all growing. Here's a picture:
FraggedMushroom5-18-07.jpg

I was shaking like a leaf when I cut it. The shroom was about 2", and I was unable to pry it off the rock it was on, so I cut it with a new razorblade while it was attached to the rock still. I took the 2 pieces that I had cut, placed them in a deli container filled with some sand, placed them on some rubble rock, put some bridal veil around them and placed the whole thing in the tank. 1 week later I took the bridal veil off, and sure enough, they were attached. I waited another day and then glued them where I wanted them. SO easy - I couldn't believe it.
