PVC Picture- Did I get the wrong stuff?

Doing a bean overflow- 3 standpipes and everything 1.5"- but with his discription and picture, I still couldn't find exact matches at Lowes. Lowes dosn't call them what bean called them, but they look the same. Will this work or did I get the wrong stuff. Got all I could get a Lowes. I'm gonna order everything else (valves and bulkheads.)

1. The caps don't thread all the way down.

2. 90* Elbows have slips on one side that im hoping will fit in 1.5" bulkheads.

Can somebody at least identify the parts "other than" bulkhead, valves, 1.5" pipe, and John guest stuff by Lowes or Home Depot terminology! Or at least look and tell me w/ confidence that I got the right stuff.

I'm stuck until I can get the right fittings. I'm so ready to drill, and can't till I have something to fill the holes with.

My main concern is the elbows. Are they going to fit 1.5" bulkheads if they're 1.5" themselves?

you're probably not going to find bulkheads at Home Depot or Lowes. Try your LFS or online. Probably the same goes for the John Guest, fittings.

It looks like you have the correct parts, but the best thing to do when doing PVC plumbing is to fit them together or hold them where they are going to go so that you can build a picture of how it's all going to work and that you have all the correct parts. Cuts down on the number of trips back to the store. Just don't stick/screw them together all the way where you can't get them back apart. ;)

Yeah I know that most of the stuff I mentioned will have to be ordered.

I think I have the right screw caps, but they quit screwing easy. Guess I'll have to tighten with tools the rest of the way.

I'm not sure at all about the elbows. Will they fit a 1.5" bulkhead? They did not say what bean has listed for them, but looked close.

If the elbow will fit in the 1 1/2" tee it will fit in the bulkhead. Best thing to do is wait until you get everything you need before you start drilling and putting pipe together.

Go to an Ace Hardware or a farm supply outlet for all the PVC

The John Guest fitting and tubing are exactly the same as fittings you would use to hook up an auto ice maker in your fridge

also use teflon tape on your screw fittings except the bulkhead nut

they will NEVER (even without the tape) screw together until you can't see threads... be sure not to over tighten them

I used PTFE teflon paste instead of tape. Tape on my last two tanks was hit or miss. Thing about the paste, MAKE SURE you stir it well, no matter how hard it is to stir, before applying. And let it kinda dry in place.

Thanks guys....all of you really help make my reef that much closer to happening.

Never though about printing it out...been bringing my iphone into Lowes and the uneducated employees don't know their RT from LT.

Yeah, keep hearing paste works well too..

For the union ball valves go to your local irrigation supply store, oh and be careful about paste. Some pastes are only for metal pipes not pvc. It will melt the pvc

+1 on PTFE!!!!

I dont use tape at all and just redid all of my plumbing this weekend.

The PTFE I bought came from lowes or homedepot in a plastic tube.. comes out as like a white/gray grease in the same area you will find the plumbers tape.. There will be a bunch of tubes some do not contain PTFE.. make sure it says PTFE.

I find the thread fittings go on smoother and much further than they normally would. I notice near the end when things are getting tight its best to try to keep it moving not twist reposition twist if possible.. it gets stuck in that last spot.. and its STUCK :) Quoting from the tube 'non-toxic' woohoo!

No leaks this weekend with PTFE!

I ordered my union ball valves from BRS.. great stuff!

Good luck!

I wouldn't worry to much about getting true-union ball valves, just ball valve and then put regular unions wherever you want, either close to the valve or elsewhere. Gives you more flexibility IMO. And speaking from my own setup, if I had it to do over again I'd probably go with gate valves rather than ball valves in order to have more control of the flow. My setup is more of a herbie than a beananimal (1 full siphon drain + emergency drain), and I'd found it a pain to match the flow just right at times. This would be less of an issue with a beananimal though since you have the 3rd drain to take care of any difference.
