I have a 92 gallon FOWLR with the following fish:

2 clowns
1 blue/green chromis
1 convict blenny
1 Kaudern cardinal
1 foxface rabbit
1 Vrolik wrasse
1 Royal gamma basslet
1 blue spotted puffer

Can I safely add the Pygmy (Cherub) Angelfish? I'm concerned about it's potential aggressive behavior, although I'm desperately trying to add some rich blue color to the tank (tank too small for Tangs). Any advice would be great. Thx!

I had a pygmy Angel in my 75 gallon and be was beat up at first by my kole tang but besides that was great.
I think your list would be ok

I had a pigmy i bought from a local and it was nipping his corals, in my tank he was a model citizen and never touched my corals, we both had mixed reefs of all different types of corals. I say go for it.

LD/AR,

What other type of fish did you have in your tanks with the pygmy? Also, was it a Cherub angelfish? I'm new to angelfish, but I want to ensure I'm asking about the right one. Thanks for your responses.

Mine became a clam nipper and then got aggressive towards the more passive fish in the tank. They are a stunning fish coloration wise and add a lot of activity.

How bad was the aggressive behavior toward the other fish? Did it subside over time or did you have to remove the pygmy? Right now I have a very peaceful tank which I would hate to destroy. It would be the last fish I would add, which may help.

I have a pair in my 75 that are kept in line by my spawning clowns.. so they don't bother any other fish. I have had experience with a nasty one before as well. Have a fish trap prepared as the aggression can come months after.

These little fish can range from feisty to downright nasty. What is the footprint of the tank?

lol, yeah, these lil fish can be enormous pitas and will go after any fish they want...the look so cute and are so little but be very careful with them!

He bullied my Fire Fish and Blue Spotted Jaw fish. Moved the fish out of the reef tank because he nipped clams, moved again because he went after passive fish.

That's too bad, it's a beautiful fish. Does not sound like it is worth the risk. I will need to keep searching for the right fish to add some blue color to my tank. Thanks for the advice.

In my opinion, I think you'd be fine. Any and all fish can exhibit aggressive tendancies. As it would be the last addition, I doubt it would target any of your current fish.

Even when I had an extremely aggressive pygmy, he or she would only really go after new additions. He/she left rather docile fish that had been in the tank previously (firefish, a marine betta) alone.

The reviews are definitely mixed, from no issue at all to having to remove the pygmy from the tank. I'm undecided, but leaning toward not rolling the dice and simply hoping for the best. Frustrating because the size and color are perfect!

try a flameback...

I have a flameback and little over a year, he swims a ton and leaves everyone alone. In a mixed reef tank never touches corals. Fish have been addded after him with no issues. One of my favorites
