Pylons Tank!

Anything I can do to help. I kinda remember what it was like to be a beginner (it was a reeeeeeally long time ago), so I can empathize. This hobby doesn't forgive like others do, so it's critical to get many things right the first time. It's way too much fun to have so many wash out b-4 they even have a chance to enjoy it.

Thanks so much. I am looking for a good book on reefkeeping. I will be starting with a 29g. tank, but if I can I might go ahead and do at least a 55g. I am starting a new thread (Book Recommendations for Beginner...), I don't want to intrude on pylons thread. Pylon really is doing a great job.

Any of the books by Jullian Sprung/Charles Delbeek, or Eric Borneman are good. Anthony Calfo has a good book out on coral propagation. Ronald Shimek, Phd for critters. The best resource, I gotta admit though, is right here. You need to read this site cover to cover.

Hey DJ, I've never seen your posts before (or never noticed) I'm in Friendswood and a self proclaimed newb for at least the next 3 years. good to know of an experienced reefer locally. Are you a member of MARSH?

Hey fstar,

Yea, been in the club off and on since the late 90's. I am currently a card carrying member.

Thanks for the info, I will look for books by these authors. I will also start reading this site from cover to cover. I plan on giving myself plenty of time before I set up my tank. I guess I had better get reading.

Yeah man, I started reading this site in June or so Registered and started asking question in October or so..I think I ended up getting my tank early December and I think I was still unprepared, I'd say read until you can't read anymore.. and then read more.

I'll keep posting pictures like crazy.. I wanna get another up today of that white growth, and I think I have some form of snail eggs that i'm gonna try and get some pics up and post them up later.

great looking tank. i prefer a finer type of sand. i have a dragon goby that sifts through it to clean it. i'm currently looking for plants that can grow in the saltwater to help with cleaning up the waste so its less i got to clean lol. great looking rocks though. always loved figi rock!

Yeah, I was hoping my goby would sift through the sand, I think he's still a bit to small, when I get the pistol shrimp hopefully he'll be able to do a good job at it.

So this looks like my Final order. Right now reefs2go is having free shipping on the next 100 orders. I really wanna wait until tomorrow to order but I'd like to get that free shipping :)

I sent them an e-mail, hopefully they'll let me place the order today and send it out on thursday so I'll get it on friday when I am home.

Gonna go take some pics of the tank.. i'll post those very shortly.

So here is the picture of that white growth I was talking about.. thinking it was the starts of some sorta worm or feather duster or something..

It's right between the reflection of the light and the arm keeping the lid up

Another shot of it dead center of the pic, kinda blurry though

I was reading a forum about snail eggs and their picture kind looked like mine, so I was kinda excited about that!

So, I've seen what looks like submissive behavior in one of my clowns over the last couple days, so I'm pretty happy about that :)
I'm pretty excited about getting the bta in a couple days is there anything I shouldBdo to prepair the tank? What about acclimating and handeling?

Shipment no 1 of 2 came in today!
Today is the purple mushrooms I bought from another reefcentral members.
I did something stupid and forgot to bed float them, When I got home the box they came in was soaking wet, I thought the bad had burst so I was anxious in getting them out and into the tank.
So here is pictures of todays new addition as well as a tank update.
