Pylons Tank!

Enjoying your posts and pictures!!!

Enjoying your posts and pictures!!!

I'm excited for you. I am really enjoying watching your tank build progress. I am really looking forward to when I can start my tank. I am getting so many great ideas looking at other peoples builds. I want to share what my son is doing with his fresh water tank I hope you don't mind. He caught a bass about two years ago, it was just a couple of inches long, now it is about 7". He just moved him into a 55g. I uploaded it from my computer we'll see if it works. He would like to start a SW tank but is getting ready to go into the Marines so it will have to wait. I will be looking forward to the pictures of your next addition.

I grew up in south Florida, I use to go Bass fishing all the time and loved it!
I appreciate the comment and wish you the best of luck with your SW tank, I hope you don't have to wait to long!

Stuff came in, the pistol shrimp that came in today is INCREADIBLY small, I'm really afraid he's going to be eaten by one of the fish.. I'm e-mailing reefs2go nowabout this

Everything else looks good, the Anenomes stomach is out almost all the way, but I'm sure thats just do to the stress..
Everything is bag floating now in the tank, hope to have pics soon.

I just added him today, I've had the tank since early Dec, so about 5 months or so I guess :)

I'll get pics of him up today!

Update:
The Pistol Shrimp has been digging up a storm!
the BTAs stomach is back in his mouth and hes been moving around and slowly inflating
Fire Shrimp is doing fine!
ZThe two rics I ordered are SMALL (size of my pinky finger nail) but they are looking good.

The nem about 30 min in the tank, he brought back in his stomach and is on the move!

my Pistol started digging this hole immediately after he went in.. I had to go out and buy more water for the tank, when I came back I couldn't find him

I'll get more pics tomorrow hopefully after everyone has settled in.

I need to run to my LFS tomorrow, probly buy more blue legged hermits,
Should I get special food for the Nem and my new shrimps?

I really think I need something as a good sand stirrer, that Pistol i got wont do the job until he gets ALOT bigger.
Any suggestions?

Still no sighting of the Pistol, If I don't see him in a few days I'll start to get worried..
the Nem wondered around all night and I think he's found a happy spot.. we'll see when the lights come on if he moves again.
My clowns went over and nipped at him but thats about it..
I'm gonna get a small raw shrimp and cut it up and see if he'll eat some..

Update:
I just got home from the LFS, I bought a couple blue legs and a Super Tonga, but the good news is on close inspection of the tank I see a new hole in the substrate, this makes me incredibly happy cause it's showing signs of life on my Pistol Shrimp that I was worried about!

So, I was speaking the the guy at the LFS and he was talking to me about dosing iodine..
now that I have a few corals in there would it be a good time to start?

EDIT: I just checked the salinity and it's lower then I'd like 1.022
Gonna try and bring that up throughout the day

Re: Pylons Tank!

there are a lot of different opinions, but the one i think is best goes: if you cant test for the level of something, dont dose your tank with it. so find a test kit for it before considering dosing.

good luck : )

Pictures from today.
Most of them turned out incredibly blurry :(

I noticed on my "Mushroom Pole" that there was a very small head on the bottom getting very little to no light. I stood the pole up and it looks like everything is getting good light.

It turns out the only pictures I took that wasn't blurry was my Center Tank Shot

My nem has been emo all day, sometimes happy sometimes very upset.. I think he was upset when I bumped up the Salinity which makes sense.. he's been happy for the last few hours.

Absolutely. Iodine is a disinfectant. Too much and you'll poison your system.

tyhanks for the reply on that other post DJ,
I am thinking that the Clown was hungy.. I havn't seen him bother with them nem after I fed him..
I have a normal feeding schedule that i've been keeping too, I miss this mornings feeding because I overslept.

I've been thinking about getting a few more corals..
I really want a sun coral and a green slimer.. my LFS is useless when it comes to coral (sorry guys!) and everyone on the forums here wants to sell packs for 100+ dollars..
All I really want is a Sun coral, a nice purple Coral and a nice Green Coral.. I have yet to see one of these packs include all three hah.

Plus I guess I don't want to add to much to quickly :P

No sun coral. They are ahermatypic (non photosynthetic) and require constant feeding of specific foods. In a small system it's real easy to trash things trying to keep these guys alive. Green Slimers are tough, as a general rule, but get a frag from someone who's raised one locally. A nana, or A valida are 2 hardy purple/magenta tipped Acroporas that should do OK in your setup.

There is one guy who aquaculture frags locally, but my LFS is keeping him top secrete, buying his frags and charging through the roof for them.

You have no local reef keeping clubs available to you? That's where you make the real contacts for stuff like that.

Never mind. I just googled your location. Gawd, I really don't think that you could b more in the "middle of nowhere". Maybe parts of Africa, or Antarctica might be more remote.
