I have had my 10" squamosa for about 3 years now. Before that he was grown from a little guy by Teo in Orlando. About a year ago I got the pyramid snails. They went crazy on my squamosa. For a while I was manually removing them once every week or two. To do this I was taking the clam out in a small bucket of water and using a soft tooth brush and dental pick to get all the snails off I could find. This seemed useless! Every time there would be at least a hundred (sometimes many hundred) snails on the bottom of the clam. I did a lot of research and found that people had spotty success with predation control. About 3 months ago I got a radiant wrasse. I have not touched the clam since. About 30 minutes ago I decided to check the bottom of the calm. I was expecting the worst! I was amazed to turn the clam over and find only about 5-10 pyramid snails on the bottom of the clam. I removed these few. I am sure there are more in the tank, but it looks like I am well on my way. The radiant wrasse is doing well, but you can be sure he is goign to be treated like royalty now. I don't want him dying any time soon! Here's a few shots of the clam, the snails, and my hero fish!:
