Pyramid Snails

Can someone post a pic of one of these? I am thinking about a clam but have noticed some small snails in my tank and was worried that a clam will be doomed from the start. Do they need a clam as a host or can they live on their own?

they look like little rice grains. I have found that they are hard to spot unless you really take a closer look. I have been cleaning my clam every couple of days of these guys for the past couple of weeks, and they really can blend in on the clam.

these are pretty tiny.... I forgot to say that, about the size of a rice grain or smaller too.

Man,

After my lights went off tonight I am looking at about 1,000 of these rice grain sized snails.

So now what? Can a six line wrasse take care of this many?

I have ordered a six line wrasse and will pick it up tomorrow. I have been doing a little research on the six line. The snails come out at night and wrasses sleep in the sand at night how, effective can they be at getting rid of the snail population?

Im sure it will find some during the day...mine is constantly patrolling the tank...in and out of the rock work checking every detail of the tank out....a fun colorfull fish you will enjoy him non the less.....and I have had a six line for almost a year now and havent had any problems with those pesky snails....

I have a ton of little snails about pea sized and like a cone. Are they the infamous ones? They suck the life out of the clams?

I've never seen pyramidellid snails as big as a pea before. They are as big as an uncooked grain of rice. Maybe 3/8" at the largest. I've seen many wild clams with big scutes come in with dozens hiding under them, but none bigger than 3/8" long.

is it possible to have these snails without having clams in the tank ?

i've seen them riding on other snail. Maybe they feed on any mollusk?

They can definitely feed upon Astrea, trochus, Turbo and the like. I've even seen them on cerith and nerite snails before. Never seen them on flame scallops, but, never really looked that hard, either.
Also, I have definitely seen them travel from one host to another, indiscriminately.

What do you mean by "clean" the clam? Got my first clam today, a teardrop maxima, and though I've read a bunch about them, never heard of cleaning them?

Yellow Coris Wrasse (H. chrysus, I think)
Juvenile Red Coris Wrasse (but you need to take him out as they transform to an adult, I think as an adult, they become the predators)
