Pyro tank

I got a call from my roommate that there was a funny smell in the house around 4pm. After checking everything out in the tank room and deciding that this was not the source of the smell, we decided to ignore it because he said it didn't smell like burning. I just got another call from him to say there was thick black smoke in the house. I had him shut everything down and we figured out that the HOB skimmer on my 72 had overflowed and was dripping down onto the halide ballast, which was sparking all over the place. Not awesome. F that. I may just tear down that tank. It's my least favorite and if that ballast is blown I don't feel like replacing it. On the plus side, everyone is safe and nothing burned. ay caramba.

Eeek. That just happened on a friend of mine's tank. The had a HOB and it overflowed dripping on the heater. It malfunctioned and brought the water to 102 degrees. Destroyed everything in the tank. I'm happy no fire broke out.

Sorry to hear about it. Had a ballast melt once. The fumes were terrible.

Got home at 3 this morning and had a chance to check things out. Power strip was dripped on and is fried. A maxijet is fried. Everything else seems to be fine. I'm going to transfer the fish to my 90 gallon today and keep the rest of the tank up until my sister sets up her tank August 1. Thanks for the support.

I'm moving my fish over. They are not easy to catch. Question: Does my 6-line want to live in a tank with a bunch of euphyllia and soft coral? Or rather, do my corals want a 6-line living with them?

salt water and electricity.....one of the few things that makes my family ask me..."how have you managed to live this long?" Glad the damage was minimal.
