Qik Joe

I did a little looking around and found out that Qik Joe Ice Melt from Milazzo Industries, right outside Pittston, it actually made by Dow. The MSDS for QikJoe says it's made by Dow and is the exact same thing as the MSDS for Peladow.
Has anyone ever used it? I know about the bromide thing now with Dow, but I would think there should be some "old stock" QikJoe at the local stores.

are you saying dow flake now has impurities that make it not good for reef tank use.i have not heard that.

Me neither.

cccapt, I owe you one. I missed this issue completely. thankfully the bag of Dow flakes I'm still using was bought in the fall of 2006. First Southdown disappears, now this. Nothing gets easier. Thanks again!

No prob :)
Just keep me in mind if you want to do a group buy on the Tetra food grade calcium. From that thread, it's available in 110lb. barrels at Interstate Chemical, Hermitage, PA 724-981-3771. I definitely don't need 110lbs for myself.

I'd be up for a small group buy on this too. I certainly couldn't use 110lb barrel myself either. But about a third of that would hold me for a good long time. So if one or two others are interested in N.E. Pa. I'm sure we can work something out? Any takers?

No, they still have "old stock". Anything made in 2006 or earlier is still good. They are aware of the bromide issue with the new Dow.

So far, yes. If you can even find it.
I'm pretty confident TwoPartSolutions will have a safe, usable substitute once they are out of their current stock of Dow.

Just wanted to say thanks for this conversation... I had been looking for the ingreedients locally for the 2 part receipe and was having a hard time... I never heard of TwoPartSolution before but once I was on the website, I ordered the $49 dollar all in one pack. :)
