Hello All,
On March 13, I received a small (2inch) Zebrasoma Rostratum x Scopas hybrid,
I have been looking said fish for quit sometime time, only ones i could track down were 6+ inchs or so i jumped on this guy when it became available.
We named him, Nathan explosion. (after a characcter on a Adult swims showed called Metalocalypse)
He showed up in good health. he was pretty thin but rarely do you find a nice fat tang.
I went a head and risked putting this amazing little guy into my DT, (tank info is in my tag at the bottom, 250g of working water) with a 4 inch chevron, named squishy, a gold rham wrasse, named Pandora, and a red tail tamarin, named bill. At the time i hadnt thought much about QTing anything. I have never had a issue in the past and I didn't have any other tanks laying around ot get one set up. THEN bam, like it has happned to 1000s of hobbyist, Little Nathan broke out with Cryptocaryon irritans.
Now the real thinking started. I had to do 1 of 2 things, 1) not worry about the ich, keep all fish fat and happy and my fingers crossed that the tank never has any "stress" and ich rears its ugly head.
orrrrrr
2) pull all my fish, qt them do tank transfer/cu/ or hypo and then go fallow on the DT for 10 or so weeks.
WELL sadly i decided the long frustrating road of the latter.
SO i am here to document how the next weeks to months effect me and my fish.
I will include pics with updates
So to get started
I decided I would first treat Nathan, He is a small thin tang that was eating well but i was still worried about his health due to his size. so after about a hr or playing the you hide while i wait with a net and some luck came, i removed from my dt and put him into a 20g with a small hob filter and a heater. As you can see in the pics, its running a barebottm with PVC and some AMM filter pads. After each 3 days period. I collect nathan out and move him over to tank 2, which is all the same equipment but just with different PVC "shapes"
After i have him from the old tank i drain it wipe it down (throw out the filter pads) then leave it "dry" for about 70 hrs before its time to move him back over.
Here are my notes from each day
*Day 1 (3/26)- moved Nathan after much frustartion from DT to 20g TRansfer tank. Sal 1.024 to 1.023
Day2/3 feed twice daily mysis in am brine in pm
*Day 4 (3/29) trans to tank2 sal of tank 1 1.021 tank 2 same- Feed heavy morning of transfer/
day 5/6 twice daily feeding, and nori and frozen marine algea
*Day 7 (4/1) trans back to tank 1- 1.020 and 1.021
day 8/9 same as above
*day 10 (4/4)back to tank 2 1.019 and 1.019
day 11/12 same
*day 13 (4/7) back to tank 1- 1.019 1.020
you can barely seem him hiding in the top left of the pic
SO he has moved 5 times, I will do one more transfer to the 20g wait three more days then transfer him to a 55g that i am going to use for "longer" term holding once i go fallow. Also going to do cu or hypo- havent made up my mind yet
Still dont know what i am going to do with the other 3 fish....... I dont have room to house them any where else and tank transfer with the 20g would be to small for all 3 at once. also I dont think the 55g would be to easy to keep all the fish in since it will be for 10 weeks.
Keep every one posted on that.
I just wanna share and try to help people protect their time and investments
I rather this not turn into a " who cares if they have ich thread just keep them in there thread". so please constructive comments or positive love please
BC we are going fallow
Thanks guys for all the feed back and everyone who has already been here and done this, info is gold
