I am getting an order from reefs2go of nassarius vibex, pods, and a Caribbean algae pack. The QT is bare bottom, 1.023 @ 78 degrees.

Will the snails be OK without sand, and what should I provide for food?

Should I put the pods straight into my DT?

Any other bits of advice?

Thanks,
Greg

All of those can go straight into your DT. No need to QT them.

The pods don't need quarantining as they were cultured in a fishless system, everything else should. I'm a neurotic quarantiner, and recently, and even with a 6 week quarantine, a cucumber I introduced, carried ich into my fowlr. Killed three fish within two days and lost another a few days later. All it took was that one cyst to be carried over. About two years before, I only quarantined fish. One day I added some snails, by the next day Velvet had wiped out most of the tank. Inverts can and will act as carriers for disease and parasites. My standard invertebrate quarantine has since been increased to 8 weeks from 6 weeks(since you can't use meds or hypo, it takes a while).

I feed my snails and other cuc in quarantine algae waffers and dried seaweed. Don't use sand, that way you can vacuum the tank bottom thoroughly to remove as many potential cysts as possible.

I'm in between. I dip up some tank water and simply give my inverts an intermediate bath on their way to my tank.
Source matters. If the inverts were in a tank that hasn't (for the last 12 weeks) had a fish or introduction of water from a place where there were fish---your chances of ich in that system are vanishingly small.

I'll be quarantining EVERYTHING for my newly set up tank. From fish, snails, hermits, corals, and everything else. Every time you add something to your tank, you risk contamination. I don't even use the same nets or turkey baster for feeding different systems. I have separate ones for my display, breeding system, and quarantine.

You'll probably be fine not quarantining the stuff though. The risk is small, but it is there.

My pods (purchased from a very reputable on-line store) came with bubble algae and the cheto I got at the LFS came with the biggest apstaisa I've ever seen
