Steven,

Can I successfully QT a new fish (4-6) weeks in my 15-gallon QT with a 5lbs of LR?

I have read youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢re article on ICH where you stated it should be bare bottom with some PVC pcââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s etcââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦etcââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦..(and have a had success with this method in the treatment of Ich)

But with a new fish where there are no meds involved can I QT the new fish with the live rock in there?

Or will the LR give a place for the Tomonts to reproduce?

If yes, how come this does not happen with youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢re ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œseededââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ sponge from youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢re display tank?

Also in you is experience how long does one of those foam filters last before it becomes exhausted in the qt environment? (no meds)

Thanks

Yes, there are people that use two tanks to pre-treat if you will their fish before introducing them into their main display; a quarantine tank with liverock and a hospital tank with PVC and other inert decorations.

SUre, but you will have to be prepared to either move that fish to a hospital tank for treatment if and when it breaks out or remove the liverock so it is not damaged by the medications but not place it back into the display for fear of introducing a disease. It would have to be 'fallowed", ie left without fish in some vessel for a month to make sure the disease died out without a host.

Because before anyhting can go into the display it has been quarantined and treated accoridngly so there is no risk of importing a disease from the display into the quarantine. And, if the fish is safe to move from the quarantine to your display, the filter must be also.

Indefinitely

By the way, did you see my article on quarantine?
