I have a quarantine set up with a hob marineland filter with biowheel rated for 50 g and my qt is a 20 g. Ive been reading about how you can leave the media in your DT sump so that it keeps seeded with bacteria so later on you can throw it in the qt and be good to go.
My question is can you do the same with the biowheel and media that comes with the hob filter?
Can you use DT water in an emergency along with media in your sump and start a qt immediately or do you have to wait for a few days/weeks?
Reason Im asking is because I dont want to kill anything by just throwing everything together and risk losing livestock.
Right now I have a qt set up and running. my question is for suture reference.
Also do you have to feed a empty qt tank?

I keep my QT empty until I get ready to use it.

When I'm ready to use it. I do a water change on the display tank and fill up the QT with water from the display tank. I keep a heater, small powerhead, and a few pieces of PVC fittings in it. I keep a sponge filter in my fuge for seeding and when I need it just drop it into the QT.

After I'm done with the QT I will clean it all up and It's ready to go next time.

Your hob filter should work just fine. Just make sure that If the filter/media is exposed to disease or chemical treatments then it is properly cleaned and sanitized before it is reintroduced to the main system to be re-seeded.
