Quarantine tank help!

I'm not sure why but the last two fish I have put in the quarantine tank have died! The tank is 5 gal and I was at 78 degrees had a air stone and a small hang on the back filter. Im so confused?

How soon after being placed into quarantine? Do you have an ammonia badge in the tank?

Moving into a new home is always stressful for a fish, so sometimes no matter what we do, it stresses them out too much.

Do you have PVC elbows in the tank, or some way for them to get out of sight? Is the tank in a darker, low-activity area?

I am sorry to hear about the loss of the fish, however sometimes it is really through no fault of our own.

I agree probably ammonia. Are you seeding your quarantine with a sponge that has spent a couple weeks in your main tank? What kind of fish were they?

I did not have an ammonia badge on the tank and it was this morning and he went in yesterday afternoon. The tank was dark and he did have an pipe.

No I did not seed the tank with anything but to my knowlage that it did not matter if the tank had any beneficial bacteria because the meds would kill it anyway? And it was a kole tang.

A 5 gal tank is pretty small with very little water and chemistry can change very quickly. Ammonia can shoot fast with little water volume.

You should probably use a little bit bigger tank for qt. Not to mention let the qt got through some sort of cycle. Its just like your dt its needs the beneficial bacteria for the live stock in the tank to survive.

Also I would suggest that if you have questions that you are unsure of ask them, that's what we are all here for is to learn and help others be successful reefers

Ammonia for sure tank was to new and nothing to seed it fish went scared and went to the bathroom and u had a major spike

With all the comments above most are good. Don't waste your time with the ammonia alert badge. By the time it tells you that the ammonia is high it's to late. A 5 gal tank is to small unless your doing a 50% WC every day & you only have a small fish in it. With a sterile tank their is nothing to process the ammonia. I been down this road before & if possible try to seed a tank before you add fish. And when things start going downhill do a major WC
