i have a 180 with corner overflows with a 75 gallon sump i was thinking about putting a 10 gallon under my tank as a quarantine plumbed together with the whole system.... under 1 corner over flow i will put a 4" sock into the 10 gallon from 10 gallon to uv sterilizer to another 4" sock to sump good idea or bad idea any feedback would be greatly appreciated

if you plan to valve it off when quarantining then maybe a good idea. if you plan on having the UV sterilize the water before re-entering your tank then I'm pretty sure bad idea, even if it could work, with a proper UV, it still defeats the purpose as it would never be 100% fool proof. You never want your Quarantine to even remotely have access to the display. Even if you valved it off for a period i think others would be leary about the close proximity to the sump and "splashing". do it the traditional way.

I would keep the QT remote and stand alone from the main tank. Too close a proximity risks splashing of water from the QT and that could carry a disease organism into your main tank. Just not to worth the risk IMO.

With a 180 for main display I would look at somethign like a 20 long for a 29 in that range for since you will be adding larger fish. Also I would keep it as simple as possible and seperate.

i would prefer to have the qt to be completely separate from your main system. this is to prevent potential for disease spread. and also, the size of the QT is depending on your potential purchase. i have a 180 display, total water vol. is about 300, and i have a 50 gallon QT, sponge filter seeded with denitrifying bacteria in system (in main sump, always ready to deploy), and 75 gallons of spare SW just in case i see something in LFS i want to purchase.
