Quarantine Tank Setup ?'s

I am putting a QT tank together. I am using a 10 gallon tank 20lbs of sand and one big piece of LR. I installed a Marineland Biowheel Filter 100 Penguin. Is this setup ok? Or shoud I have not put sand and LR? I am not looking to setup and tank down. I figure I could just keep it up and running. I want to use it to keep an eye on new fish and if one of mine get sick I can medicate them. What shoud I do with new fish? How long should I keep them in there? Should I medicate them as soon as I get them? Or wait to see if there sick? Thanks for the help.

The biowheels are good for a QT. You can stick the biowheel in the sump of your display tank to seed it, as well as keeping there in between uses. Skip the sand rock, as they can interfere with some medications. Bare bottom is fine, and if QT'ing a species that needs sand (like some wrasses) you can just use a tupperware container with sand for them ;) For hiding places, pieces of PVC pipe or fittings work quite well. Don't look like much, they work for the fish. If you want something dressier for aesthetics, get the fake resin corals.

I removed everything in the tank now i just have a piece of pvc in there. Ok now I have it running I have been for about 3 weeks and when I first started it I put one frozen krill to start the cycle process and the ammonia peaked and has gone down but not to much. So I decided to to take the water out and seed it like you were saying. How long do I need to seed it before I can use it? I have a snapper that is looking sick and I would like to QT him. So I connected the filter to the fuge. It's been there about 15 hours . How long should I keep it running there? So when I take the snapper out and put him the QT tank I should use water from the display tank and not new saltwater. Right ? When I am done with QT I should dump the water right? Also what is the specific gravity should I keep on the QT tank? Whats the best medication should I use? Please give me brand and model and where I can get locally. If not then what website. I really would like this help ASAP because I hate loosing a fish my father bought me. I also have one more question. When I am done with the bio wheel and go to reseed it on the display tank again. What precautions should I take so that cooper or medication doesn't get into the display tank. Would changing the filter pad be enough? Thanks and if you have any other info please let me know.

Got a sand bed in the display tank? If so, bury that biowheel in the sand for a couple of days...it'll seed fairly fast that way. In the meantime, some amquel and water changes can work for the QT.

What sort of symptoms are you seeing with the snapper? That will determine the most likely medications to use.

To set up the QT, and for water changes, I usually use water from the display tank and thereby give the display a water change. As for SG for the QT, depends on what is being treated for.

When it comes to after the QT is done, yes dispose of the water and give the tank and components a good rinse and drying. If your sure the disease is truly clear of the system, just chuck the biowheel back in the sump of the display till the next time.

ok well have had the filter seeded for about 8 days. I setup the QT Tank a 2 days ago and he is doing well. I gave him Copper Treatment by Mardel Sentry AQ. He looks better. Now I have them there everyone else seems to be getting ICK. Now I have another tank That is connected to my system. a 29 gallon frag tank. Now the question I have can I remove that frag tank use it a QT tank then later clean it out and reinstall it to my system? or does the copper get entrained in the silicone? Bill here is a pic of my fish. that I see sick. Now should I put the sick ones only or all of my fish in the 29 gallon tank? Do I need dividers or anything else? (BTW The snapper I am keeping in another 10 gallon QT tank because he is very aggressive and was never mixed with my reef setup. )

once any tank has had copper in it don't use that system for anything else but fish and as a quarantine tank the tank the filter whatever was in there is now used only for that. even the net you used to put it in there. the copper will go into the silicon and everything else.

Ok now I am reading around about Ick. So I should put all my fish in the QT tank. Then wait 9 weeks before adding them back to the DT. Now another thing I am was reading. That all new coral can contain ICK. ???? So before I put a new piece what do I need to do? Is this something I have no chance of fixing? I don't have a UV so I am thinking of getting a 40Watt UV to control any ick outbreaks. Now what else should I know? Thanks

I know some people dip in Iodine and others just get coral dip before putting it into your tank. but I think its mostly for sps some lps and rare with softies ( not 100% so I suggest always dipping)

I have 4 chromis, 2 saddleback clowns, 1 blue tang, 1 yellow tang, 1 sailfin tang, 1 maderin, 1 foxface, all of them small. Could I put them all in a 29 gallon tank? Or I need a 55?

I have 4 tanks running in one sump. 110reef, 70FWLR, 29Fuge, 29Frag. I was thinking of isolating the 70 gallon tank and either doing copper or lowering the salinity. Is there anything I can to clean the copper out of the 70 gallon tank? I was going to take all sand and LR before doing copper. Can I let it dry out or clean with something to get the copper out of the silicone?
