Question about fish

All,

I am going from a 80 gallon tank down to a 45 gallon tank, I have the following fish that I am concerned for the change:
Yellow tang
Purple tang
Tommini Tang

What would be the best option to have these fish less stressed out over the new change. I am sorry if this sounds dumb to some but the fish are important.

Rehome the fish is the only option in my opinion. Maybe the Tomini will work in the new tank but even then they can get pretty big. Not trying to be the tang police or anything as I too have pushed the limits but a 45 gallon tank is really small for those tangs.

Is there one that is significantly smaller than the other? If one is little, maybe you could keep one for a while...

If the fish are important either don't downgrade your tank size or re-home them. None will be happy long term in that size tank

Well they are the only fish in the tank thus far. I might re house them which is a very good idea. What are good fish to keep in a tank that small then

I thought anthias were for bigger aquariums. I have never kept them before.

They require frequent feedings so many small tanks cannot handle water quality issues. Though if your maintenance routine is good and you have good filtration some of the smaller species such as randalls would work, as would a solitary species like the sunburst.

i would take dottybacks off the list. way too aggressive.

water changes should amount to about 10% of your total volume. in a 45g tank, a weekly 5g water change should work as long as you aren't overstocking/overfeeding and you are keeping your water quality pristine.

if you go to liveaquaria.com and look at "nano" fish, you can get more ideas. i think you'd be much happier with smaller fish.
