Question about Long tenticle plate

I am just wondering who is going to win the battle of hairy mushroom VS LTP?

i just acquired a LTP and it has a tendency to float across the bottom of the tank into the mushroom corner..

will they fight? i couldnt care about the mushroom but dont want to lose my new plate.

nobody??

the plate is only the size of a toonie (slightly larger then a dollar coin) ~ 1.5"

with 45X turnover she is a bit breezy over the sand...

i guess i will just stick a small piece of acrylic in the way until he has enough size to stay put..

Mushrooms are not aggressive but they can overgrow something else as they spread and enlarge. Your LTPC is a sensitve coral and can easily take a dive. Try getting it to place where the current is not so strong. IMHO, 45x turn-over is overkill for a 20g nano. Cut that back, remove a pump, etc. I have a 25gal nano with a turnover of about 10-15x and my mushrooms are 4" in diameter and doing great!

Keep things away from the plate...it will most likely sting and kill surrounding corals it comes into contact with, or be killed by other corals it comes into contact with. Why take the chance? You have WAY too much flow if the plate is being blown around...
Put it into an area of lower flow where it can stay put, and let it move on its own to find the most suitable positioning.

my tank is in the process of undergoing stoney conversion...as the softies are coming out..but i still like the LPS corals...so i need the flow for the SPS...i have sold all the mushrooms in my tank now anyway...

hairy mushrooms seem plenty aggresive to me when something falls or hits them...they have killed a couple monti's already, same with the Green star polyps..(killing monti's that is)

the plate seems fine aslong as he doesnt swell up too huge...he goes from an 1 1/4" to almost 3" in the course of the day and that is when he gets blown around..

i put a couple pieces of live rock in his way so he cant move now...once the shrooms are out of the tank i can let him float around...but the corner he tends to float too is the corner the Clowns call home..and they are mean to intruders..especially my hand trying to retrieve lost corals..

i cant wait to rid the tank of softies...all i am keeping are a small kenya tree in the "lowest of low" flow areas in the tank my GSP, a ric or two and a yuma...and of course my zoa collection...tank will otherwise be dominated by Monitpora's SP. plus a couple Milllie's and an acro or two..
