Question about my stand

I built my stand to support the perimeter of the tank with the center brace also
supported. No plywood top. I see most stands with the top one piece of plywood. Is this an issue? The bottom glass never touches on aquariums, only the trim and center brace, which are supported with my stand. Is this an issue I should be concerned about?

Nope this is how mine is on my 180 built into the wall. its supported with 2x8 on there edge all around and directly under the trim running from front to back.Because of how Glass breaks its best to not have a piece of glass laying flat supported solid. For Acrylic. it should be on flat piece of plywood.

Ohh if you think you might ever go bare bottom Paint the bottom of the tank. I have spots i cant get access to for painting so i have some light shine thru. But My tank has shelves under it that is open above them. You can kinda see in my Profile picture

No - if it's a rimmed tank it's not an issue at all. The 'factory' stand I bought with my 120 didn't have a plywood top either.

Not needed, but can help prevent the stand from twisting. It is also useful for blocking light from the sump area.

Agree, I always build stands w/ a ply top for these reasons, the added shear strength is a big issue for us that live where we have quakes.

For most people, the tank itself will add enough rigidity against the stand racking. If you're worried about an earthquake having more is never a bad thing.

I figured I was ok but thought I would ask. Its built like a tank! Thanks! No issues of quakes here in Florida YET!! lol
