My question is that it is my understanding that with the Gen 2 pump when night mode is programed if you loose power you have to reset the night mode? If so does the back up battery eliminate this problem or do I need a 120v battery back up? And with multiple pumps do you need back up for each unit?

The battery backup will eliminate the need to re-program the night mode back into a Gen2 pump. If you have multiple pumps, you would only need the battery backup for master pumps or any autonomous pumps to preserve this setting. Slaves will get their directions from the master.
