Question about PE's

Do only PE's have the lime green mouthes? There is a rock at the LFS that has some maroonish looking polyps with lime green mouthes. I took a picture with my phone but the color didn't come out at all.

PE is pretty much a generic term that typically refers to any Zoanthus with a green slit mouth. All PE's I've seen also happen to fit into the Zoanthus gigantus classification. These are typically larger than normal polyps (except in my tanks...) with the green slit mouth and white striping on the underside of the polyp when the oral disc is closed. Those appear to have the general form of a PE...

Thanks for the info.

Sorry the picture is so bad. They looked pretty neat, but not much color. I was trying to decide if that rock was worth $40.

If I had to choose. I'd say they looked a lot like RPE's. Maroon disk and skirt with lime green mouth.

Sounds like an RPE to me... :)

Depends, I've seen RPE's go for .50 to $10 a polyp... Sometimes more depending upon if they're true RPE's or not... Some RPE's will look brown under white light... 6500k and whatnot... Those don't go for as much...

Those dont look like the highly prized variety of RPE, but they do look happy and healthy. Depends how desperate you are for a PE paly. Looks like youd be paying around $2 a polyp, which is not bad.

I'm not desperate for a PE paly. They just came in at the LFS and I thought they were pretty neat and looked like PEs. I guess I will decide whether to get them or not tomorrow when I got back in.

If it has aptasia on it like the rack in front of it, might also depreciate its value... :D

:) So is that rock worth $40?

That is the question you have to ask yourself, not us.

What I am willing to pay for some stuff, other people wouldn't even consider.
If you like them, then get them.
I do have alot of different PE types in my zoanthid tank, and that is one color morf of the rpe that I have.

I might offer the owner of the store,,,, maybe $30 and see what he says.
