Question about Pyram snails

I have a quick question about Pyram snails. I have been reading how they attack the clam and what not. I have some small snails in the tank that come out after lights out and they look like the small Pyram snails. At first I removed a few of them and did some online looking, Google search, and there is another snail that looks like the Pyram, or even might be in the same species, but is harmless to tanks animals. I have been checking my clams underside and have seen nothing. I have seen these small snails on the clams shell but that is it. The move along the shell and then get on the sand and move away. I guess the question is this, do the Pyram snails feed through the clams shell? Could they burrow a hole through the shell and feed that way? When I get home tonight from work I will try and get a pic of the small snails.

Thanks,
Eric

they do not feed through the clam shell, they feed on the mantle of the clam shell, sort of like mosquitos do. they stay hidden on the bottom of the clam and inside the scutes of the clamshell during the day and come out to feed at night. if you see any snails on your clam regardless of what it may be, i recommend removing them just to be safe.
