Question about RO water

Hey everyone,

I was curious, i bought a RO system from YR awhile back, and it turns out that my abilities to pay attention to directions are.....subpar. I had the lines for the waste water and the RO water reversed.

My question is, would this have done any serious damage to the upstream filters (the resin bed and what not) or is the pre filtering enough to prevent any concerns.

Depending on the config, as I'm not familiar with John's setups, there are normally 5 stages:

Large Micron -> Small Micron -> Chemical Block -> RO -> DI -> clean water

Like wise from the RO -> waste water

So, having the lines mixed up should have only exhausted your DI resin about 5-10 times as fast as the proper plumbing.

well, i switched the lines over, but now i have almost no flow. Sadly the RO system i have seems to only want to work with copper tubing, and i have braided. Do we have any plumbers that know how to connect a small hose to non copper surfaces, cause right now, i have a fantastic leak goin on that i would love to solve tonight.

This might be after the fact, but I use a faucet adapter with my input so that I can port it around. If you are having trouble installing the leech line since you have braided, might be worth consideration at least for the short term.

I may end up having to go that route or just getting some copper tubing and just replace it on the cold water side. ...on a side note, that copper wouldnt leech into my system would it?

So I'm asuming you you periced the the braided line with the kit?
Yikes...
You need either a hose bib adapter to connect to the washer lines, OR a sink adapter to connect to a common facuet..

Nope copper won't leach into your system because fresh water does not attack copper.
If copper was leaching then the copper pipes in your house would slowly disolve, which is not really the case..
So you are safe with copper lines with FRESH water.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that perhaps, just perhaps, the Super Glue/Liquid Nails/Electric tape combo Ive tried applying to the hosing is not going to hold as well as I would have liked.

Looks like i have a Home Depot visit in my future, thanks for the help funman (oh and your assumption about me piercing the tubing was right...sadly)

Yeah.. I kinda figured based on your post.

Get there before they close tonight, and replace that hose, because there is NO WAY that your patch will hold all night long!!
And you'll have an emergrency thread of your own..
:(
