question on skimmer and pods for dragonet

If I'm feeding pods to my refusium, do they make it into the main tank or do they get taken out by the protein skimmer?



I'm just wondering if my Mandarin is getting enough. I feed him artic pods and occasionally put the tigger pods right into the tank, but I've mainly been feeding the tigger pods to the refusium and hoping they would get to the tank thru the water column?

He seems to be doing OK, but lately seems to be diggining in the sand more and I'm wondering if he isn't getting enough.

depends on where your skimmer is in the refugium. If you're skimming after water has gone through the fuge, then you're going to be losing some pods, not all of them, but there is loss. This is why most people set up their skimmer in the first chamber, then go through the fuge, then the return.

Thanks Matt, It looks like Ty set it up so that it is at the end of the cycle, we were going to reconfigure the refusium anyway as the skimmer hasn't been working that well(its in a separate rubbermade) This weekend Ty is building a new refusium set up using a 100 gallon tank so that the skimmer an sit in it and we can control water levels better. We'll put the skimmer at the beginning of the cycle this time.
