Question on which Kessil 360 versions to use

My tank that I am setting up is 59"L x 20"W x 22"H. I have decided to go with the Kessil A360 model however am debating on whether to get 3 of the wide angel ones, 3 of the narrow angle ones, or a combination of say 2 wide angles and 1 narrow.

Do any of you vets have an opinion on which way I should go? Thanks again for all of your help! Happy 4th!

I would go with 3 x A360we's. That will give you plenty of overlap to minimize shadowing. You probably won't need to turn them up past about 50%. They are great lights IMO.

If u plan on sps, 3 isn't gonna come close. I have 2 on a 36x18 and still don't have good coverage. If the tank only has 1 center brace and you are into kessils I'd do 4we's and a couple 48" retrofit t5's

No center brace to worry about. What if I went with the narrow A360 which is more intense then the WE version? I am likely going to end up with a mixed reef tank and not an all out SPS.

It's not a matter of the par. It's just the nature of single point lighting. You want the wide angles but the shadowing will make you lose your mind. If I had it to do over I just would have done a t5 ati 6 bulb and been done with it for way less money. If you don't have much rock for shadowing then 3 we's will do fine for softies and lps. That's just the opinion of a guy with 1k worth of light over a much smaller tank and still isn't happy. You don't get the nice led shimmer but t5's grow corals with great growth and color.

I have to disagree with the problems of shadowing. The OP's tank is only 59" long, with no center brace. If the lights are at the recommended 12-14" above water there will be plenty of overlap so that shadowing will be minimal. I use 2 x A360we's on a 4x2 tank and really don't have any problems with them.

You will get a million opinions on lights. My suggestion, BRS has some videos on you tube, 4 of them comparing t5, led, and mh. I think that the general consensus is they all work, have pros and cons, and that the best solutions are hybrids. Either way they are a lot of money especially hybrids. The cost makes it very clear to me that this is a niche hobby and demand is not enough to help drive down cost. I would research, find LFS that have the lights you are interested in over their tanks so you can see how they really look. Seriously consider chinese because 1k+ lighting a tank is a bit ridiculous. And search craigslist, your local marine society, and this sites for sales and consider buying used.

All that being said, people have used t5 and mh for years and had great results. leds are relatively new, have a much higher learning curve to not kill your coral, and for all the $ and ability they have pretty much make it dumb to not have a par meter which is even more $.

I personally am using mh that i picked up used off craigslist along with a bunch of other gear. Eventually I want to move to something different but for all of the places to spend $ in this hobby I have much more pressing needs like an ATO, and maintaining Ca and Alk right now.

I have a 75gal with two 360w and they are stunning. Our growth is great and corals love them. That would be my suggestion.

My opinion, I had two kessils on my 75 and hated them. I had a major problem of not getting any coralline algae at all. I changed it to just a Aqualight HO and now get coralline like mad that is for one. Also I had 3 power supplies die on me in 2 years. If you want a serious light go with Radions the best period
