question

yup, we are seeing that alot lately. and it pretty much frowned upon in this hobby. esspecially if it was a colony and they are chopping it up into frags. would never sell to that person ever again.

I'd prefer to trade or occasionally sell to hobbyist, and not to a one man chop shop that's mainly interested in making money.

:( Is this that Tangey guy again that Copps almost sent replacement frags to, after he lied and said they were doa?

Free enterprise found the reef keeping hobby some time ago. Now it is beginning to be widely exploited as others see great potential for earnings. Sadly, there is nothing you can do about it. I prefer trades, personally, but sometimes you've got to sell a few to make some money for that new 120 going in beside the 125;).

no, actually. i sold a frag pack and the guy turned around and was selling a frag i sold him a week later. he said it wasnt for profit, but the price he asked was more than the price i charged (my pack would have been about $1 a polyp and he was charging more than $2). and he was overchrging for shipping. regardless, he was making a profit and selling frags that were not acclimated to his tank yet since he bought them the week before.

i was just wondering if zoa collectors thought this was a good practice. i cant imagine it is since reselling a frag after 2 day shipping isnt good news for the next person down the line.

buying wholesale and price gouging is one thing, but buying at hobbyist prices and price gouging is retarded. :rolleye1:

Yea these people are starting to get out of control with their chop shop mentality. They were probably hoping you didnt' see them doing it.

As long as there are people willing to pay for these 2 or 3 polyp frags there will be poeple chopping colonies. The only thing we can do is not pay whatever they are asking, because, unfortunatly, they aren't doing anything technically wrong. The fact that taking advantage of a nice fellow reefer willing to sell good colony for a fair price is morally wrong doesn't really matter (again, unfortunatly)...

I am so sorry to hear that, enitnelaVeyaF. I hate to think there is more than one farthead out there doing it.

I wish they would cut it out, because it means small time hobbyists will soon have no where to turn for zoas besides the price gougers. :( Why do some people always have to ruin a happy thing for those of us who love it?

I'm going to go stare at my tank now for a bit...

Sorry to hear this... just be thankful they didn't claim DOAs!:D :(

The fortunate thing is that this hobby is a closely knit community and word travels fast... all we could do is get the word out, and support and back those of us who buy/sell/trade with honesty and a good reputation...
