Questions about my Ranco temp controller???

I got a used Ranco single stage temperature controller as part of my used tank but I don't have any directions. I set it to 78 degrees for my heater +/- 1 degree F.

Can you clarify how this works. It shuts off power to the heater if it goes above 79 correct (the way I have it set)?

Does it also shut off if it goes below 78? Obviously, I would not want that.

Also, instead of diplaying the temp. in the tank at times, it will display "E" at times. It still seems to be working. Should I fix this.....if so, how? I'm assuming "E" is an error message but it only shows this about 15% of the time.

Thanks, Doug

if you set it up the way you say, it should turn off at 79 and turn on at 77.

as fr the E error are you sure it wasnt E2? I never saw just the plain E. if it is the E2 that means it is going down hill and will need to be replaced soon as the memory board is shot.

Thank you for the info and manual.

Yes, it is E2. Is there a part that can be replaced instead of the whole thing. The guy I bought it from said I would need to replace the "sensor." The manual says I need to replace the "control."

Thanks

It has been showing the E2 message about 15-20% of the time but it still seems to be working well.

Do you think it is too risky to keep using it?

I certainly wouldn't keep using a temp controller that had a fault. It decides to go bananas, your tank is toast.
