Questions about upgrading and moving our tank.

Hey all, long time reader of forums/first time posting. Learned alot from u guys last 2 yrs. (thank you) and was hoping to get some advice.

We have a 55 gallon reef tank set up in our office that we will be taking down following this summer as we will be moving our office and setting up somewhere much larger.

As you would think, this is a perfect time to upgrade to a larger tank. :)

Right now the 55 has 2 maroon clowns(mated), yellow tang, copperband butterfly and a sixline wrasse. It has about 60 lbs. of live rock, 3 inch sand bed, hang on the back refugium, powerhead for waterflow and four 96 watt lamps.

I have been thinking about a 100 gallon glass aquarium that we will drill for an overflow and use the existing 55 as our under cabinet refugium.

My questions are...

1. I would like to use the existing 60lbs. of live rock, as well as adding another 60 or so lbs. and dont really know the best way to add the new rock without going through another cycle. What methods are used?

2. How do I go about finding the appropriate return pump to purchase, considering its a 100 gallon tank/55 gallon fuge and I will try to use the return for all my water flow?

3. I'm planning on a tank in the center of the room with a 360 degree walk around veiw of the tank. Can I do a center of the tank overflow/return pipe hidden in a column of rocks? Or is this a bad idea?

Thank you in advance for any help. It is much appreciated.

To give you some ideas to your questions:

1) You can put your new LR in a tub with a powerhead and add a few pieces every week. When you move/transfer your tank, it's going to go thru a small cycle anyway.

2) It really depends on what your overflow can handle. You could probably use the same pump from your 55, and add something else for added flow in the tank (powerheads, tunze, closed loop....etc)

3) Yes, you can do that as long as the bottom of the new tank isn't tempered. There are quite a few tank on RC done this way.
