ok so i'm going to buy "pre-cured" LR from an internet site since I can't drop the big bucks at the LFS...when i get the LR, my tank will be empty besides sand and water (i'm giving my old fish away)...should i just throw the new rock into the water and wait? do I need to scrub/do water changes? how long before I can add my first corals? I will have T5 lighting and a protein skimmer ready by the time i get the rock. thanks for any help!
Matt

If you throw it right in your tank will cycle. I would scrub off any dead stuff I see then put it in. You will still get a cycle most likely but itll be fine... watch your levels and when the tank gets to normal then you can continue

throw the rock in and wait...IMO...I would wait at least 5~6 WEEKS before adding anything else..do 20-25% water change before adding anything after that

I would put the rock into the tank, personally. Scrubbing off any rotten-smelling organic debris might help. I would do water changes as long as ammonia was over, say, 0.5 ppm, but only to the extent that I found convenient. No point driving yourself crazy, IMO.

Time to finish the process varies greatly, anywhere from a month on up. I would definitely have the skimmer going full blast.

when you get the rock scrub off any thing that smells dead or is black, put it in the tank to cure, test the water regularly for amonia nitrite and nitrate, when they all read zero, could take2-6 weeks your done cycling, and ready to add clean up crew and a fish or 2
, do water changes during this period 1-2 times a week, also run the skimmer during this time, i cure live rock with a 4 hour lights on period and some people do no lights so thats up to you, as for corals,id wait 8mnths or so untill the tank is well established
