quick question about eels

It's been awhile, just curious what is the smallest eel/tank that can house and eel? Find them pretty cool and I'm just weighing out my options atm for a future aquarium. Can't have a huge tank, will probably have to stick to 40g or under.

I did google is my friend and google gave me a million different answers haha. I searched on here and googled and saw people say everything from 20 gallons for some eels, to 100g minimum for any eel.

Being that eel are notoriously messy fish that produce a lot of waste a large volume of water is better. If you want to have to do water changes more often you could make some eels work in a 40g I suppose

If you go really light on your other fish, your bioload could be okay in a 40. Say, if you had a snowflake in a 40, I wouldn't put anything else in with it other than a pair of clowns and an electric damsel or something similar. What I would certainly plan to do is run a 120-ish capable skimmer in a 29 sump carrying about half its capacity (about 15 extra gallons of water). It would be an extra step but a vinegar drip will increase its efficiency if you want corals.

Hey guys just checked this now, might have to reconsider on the eel, seems like they'll eat my clean up crew and with a 40g or less tank I wouldn't have much room for anything else.

Interesting though you said a vinegar drip? That must be new this is the first time I have heard anything about that.
