Quick R.O. Installation Questions

Hi Everyone,
So when installation the RO system, should the on/off valve be before the unit or after the unit?--another way to ask this is should the unit be pressurized at all times, or only when the unit is "on"

Probably need to explain your system better but you should always keep filters and RO wet. Do you have storage tank (drinking water system)? Is shut off just a ball valve or auto shut off? Having the unit pressurized insures it remains wet but without knowing your system this may not be the correct answer for you..

Almost forgot..You will def need a shut off before the system for servicing the filters. So the answer might be both..

Thanks MGM, my unit is a 4 stage RO system with just a ball valve shut-off.

The RO unit will be installed underneath my sink, so i didn't want to have to get in under there each time i turned it on/off. It sounds like it WON'T be a problem to always have it "on" then--by installing the on/off ball valve on my outlet (vs. that of the inlet)

can someone confirm this?

If you install the ball valve on the outlet, then when it is closed it will just force all the water to go through the waste line output, so it would be running 24/7.

I would but the ball valve on the inlet (you need to in order to change a filter). If you want you could put a ball valve on the outlet, but you would need to buy an auto shutoff valve thingy that shuts off the waste output when you have the output valve closed. But i am not sure that this is necessary for what you are describing.
