Been lurking here a long time, enjoy the forums but I'm still in the freshwater stage. Great info still...

Problem is...

I recently purchased a hurricane quietflo 1200, I purchased 2 Quietone 3000's 780GPH each, at 4ft of head it should be less then 600 apiece. I figured 2 turned down a bit with ball valves if needed would give me about 1000-1200GPH and all should be fine. The problem is the overflow can just keep up with 1 pump.

Anyone here ever tried these overflows? Any comments?

Most overflows including the one you have wont flow anywhere near the advertised claim. How big is the display and sump? That is a lot of return flow. You only need 3 - 5x display size or so.

How do you have it plumbed?

Thanks for the welcome!

Setup

125 gal tank with a DIY 29 gal sump(with tips from this site). I plan on housing a few very large cichlids which is the reason I was trying to achieve such a high turnover.

I used the flex ribbed hose that came with the overflow to drain into my sump and hard plumbed, PVC, the returns.

I thought once about using PVC for the drain but the hose is actually ~1.25in ID. Large enough to slip over 1" PVC.

It figures though, MPG err GPH may vary. What a world we live in
