Quite a Clown/Anemone Corner

Name those hosts/clowns and a mystery expensive fish swimming by :). Sorry about the bad quality pictures from the iphone, my D50 battery is out........................

Looks like a couple of half dead carpets, a few nice LTA's, a recessing RBTA, and some sweet clowns, maybe leucokranos hybrids? Is that in a dealers tank? What do they do, just dump everything in one tank?

What does recessing mean? The carpets are healthy as horses for now anyway :)..

And yes I dump my anemones everywhere

Recessing means it is hiding in a rock, not spread out as big as a football-of couse a baby RBTA is not going to be that big, but it will. And the carpets will get bigger than dinner plates (if they live more than a few months), causing problems for the LTA's and hapless fish (expensive or inexpensive) that get to close. Those are your nems? Wow, I'd get ready to start moving some to other reefs. And the green one to the right of the rock seems to be gaping badly. Had to tell though, the pics are not that great (but they're not that bad either).

So in your experience I have...

A recessing BTA
LTA in danger
Hapless fish
Gaping carpet

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate the info. Anyone else?

I know Kris your such a rooky at this. Everything looks good & healthy to me from my 20+ years of experience. Especially that mystery clown. Is that a gem tang??

lol...Yes everything looks like its dieing:)...lmao

What a beautiful tank. Everything looks good.. And i am going to go with the angel as the expensive fish???

Not really good with expensive fish i am afraid:(

:)

Its not a fair question really; its in the first picture whizzing by at around 20mph, hint tang.

Name those clowns too! No looking at BL's avatar for hints..

Nice nems, can we see some more pics of the carpets?

Love the positioning of the LTAs and those Leukocranus are sweet.

I would second the gess on the gem tang in the first pic, the purple tang has a more vivid tail colour.

We want more pics!!!!!

Matt

Kris, How long have you had the nems in the tank? I'm no expert on nems, but the carpets don't look any bigger than the tangs. Unless they are baby carpets, they can't be that happy. Even smaller carpets spread out, and take up a fair amount of room. Again, I'm no expert, but I've heard people talking about different species of nems "waging war". I've also heard a lot of horror stories where peoples purple tangs and other fis become nem food. I say I've heard, because my nems are in more aof a species tank, Haddon w/ saddle clowns. Haddon with clarkii, RBTA w/ maroon. That is what nems do, eat other fish that are'nt clowns. I could be wrong (love to be in this case actually). But I'd like to see update pictures in 1 month, 3 months, 6 and 12.

Unless a carpet is shriveled up, mouth is gaping or white, it is perfectly fine...in fact some of the healthiest nems I have seen.

Great job! LOVE the clowns...and they must love you too;)

Not sure what Hdonut is looking at(or the harsh neg opinion), but all seem healthy to me.
Yeah, you gotta alota nem there, but this is a 400g tank right?

Sorry, don't mean to be harsh, but I just have never seen that many different species of nems to do well long term in a small (400 gal.) tank. Maybe I'm wrong, but how long have they been together, and how long can big carpets live so close to LTa, BTa and other fish without one of them getting hurt or eaten? And those carpets look close to being shrived up to me, I'm used to seeing carpets that are 12 to 24 inches wide. Even Haddon's dont stay under a foot long if they're feeding well. I'll shut up and wait to see pictures months from now. I have no problem eating crow, especially with a good hot sauce! Obviously the owner has some funds to buy multiple colored carpets and fancy clowns, I would think there is even more money tied up in lights, filtration, water treatment etc., so these nems may do very well for a long time.

How long does it take to charge that D50 battery?? We need better pics Kris. In the second pic what clown is that in the anenome above the lta w/ the thiellei in it? Is that a leuc also??

Sorry slept in............

BL wins! My pride and joy a baby Gem tang.

There are two baby Haddoni's in the picture as well as a brand new Gigantae from Todd at Cherry Corals. I told myself I wouldn't try another Gigantae [see my other thread] but this one had really long tentacles and solid body folds right away which is unusual in this year's inundation of them.

The anemone field is something I've toyed around with before. I've had the red and purple LTA for six months or so. The greenish one is brand new and blew up over night, it's huge with a bright green oral disc. The baby Haddoni's are around 4 months old. The large BTA in the pic is a PITA, its a mover so to speak. My clones dont budge but that guy is all over the place..

To the most important items.........

Chris of course is right thats A. thiellei with three Luecokranos babies. The largest of the babies following the Thiellei around like a puppy dog and the other babies live in the Gigantae. What a pairing that might turn into eh?

It takes a lot of planning to pull this off. Some of you remember my other multi clown specie tank that died in hurrican Rita. The trick is to pre host all the clowns prior to introduction. I dont want the Leuc babies to try host with the GSM pair at the other end of the tank. Watching a $30 fish kill a $200 fish aint cool

Heterodonut I've been doing this for many years. Matter of fact I've been a contributer to this forum for quite a few of those years. I collect clownfish and anemones; alot of thought and experience went into what you see in those pictures. In the future as you visit this forum it would be nice for you to keep an open mind and not throw out advice unless you are very sure you are correct.

D50 is still down, working night shift this weeked I'll try to throw a few pics up tomorrow.

Thanks for all your kind comments. My Credit Card hurts after this week but as you guys know when the rare stuff is out there you gotta grab em.
