Quiverfull's Biggle Juice Expeeiment

This is a very nice system with good sps colours. Post up more pics when possible. :) I'm very jealous of the fish room.

So here are a few more pics of "what I've been hiding". I am still waiting on my gel filters and still developing my photo skills.
ORA frogskin: this was totally brown before BJ started

Here is the best I can do with my red planet at this time. Notice how green it is, I have attributed this to the fact that it is low under the center brace(I hate that thing):

Last but not least, one of my "Aussies" in honor of Andrew and the rest of the down under empire.

I will continue to work on my photography skills in the coming months and perhaps try one of my big boy cameras (these are all iPhone pics) soon. Hats off to Matt (Reefmutt) for encouraging me to get the look down viewer ... It's a whole different perspective and if you don't have one, I would highly recommend picking one up (as Ferris Bueller used to say).

All the Best,

Greg

beautiful, Greg! I hope you are hiding more. :)
I love that blue aussie!
So, you are using only Koral color and Lugols.. no Salifert?

Yep. The only thing I add other than water and salt is ESV 2 part, Lugol's and Koral Color. That's it. Oh and fish food for the fat piglets.

No problems. At one point my PE was, shall we say, poor and I thought about trapping him/her and banishing him to the sump but I have to say, I have never seen him nip and since feeding fish more and starting the KC and Lugol's the PE has been much improved so for not he stays put.

Hi.

Quick question, and I know it is going to vary, but how soon did you begin to notice the effects of the KC, either on algea or increased color? Or, what were the first things you noticed to say "Hmmnnn, something is student here".. I am going to ask on biggles thread also. But I'm a few days in, and just want to be on the lookout..

I'm dosing Lugols and the KC. 4 drops of Lugols and 2ml of KC on 210 gallons twv..

Thanks a ton..

I noticed changes in color in the first 3 weeks and these have intensified. I guess I did not really want to make a judgement one way or another until I was a month to 6 weeks in. Color was first followed by PE for my system. I would check with Biggles on your dosing. It seems that your KC may be low. I dose 5ml daily for a 150g total water volume system and 1.5 drops of Lugol's every day. Andrew will give you a good estimate of what you need. I have not been measuring anything in the chemistry other than my usual Alk, Ca, about 1 time per month and NO3 and PO4 every several months (both these last 2 have always been 0). As far as algae growth, this did increase but was manageable. I really just harvest some hair type algae off the overflow intakes and the return outflows every once in a while - maybe one time per week. No issues anywhere else other than some small areas of bubble algae that my Mithrax crabs seem to handle. I am keeping an eye on the algae. Will probably check PO4 again if algae gets any more. Remember, I do water changes - 20% every 2 weeks (easy for me with my set up - just need to turn a few valves and add salt to the new batch of RO for next time).

Thanks for the response and input.. Hopefully he will be on soon to give an answer.. If not, then I'll go with your 3 week.. And that's my thing, I don't want to get excited too much, too soon.. And are you all using the 1 drop per 5 gallons(from the bottle, and hopefully I said it correctly) or an accelerated rate?

This is interesting to say the least..

I notice that you're dosing a lot more KC than Andrew is daily. You both have around 150g water volume and I think he said that he's currently dosing 0.7ml per day , where as you're dosing close to 5 times that at 5ml per day. Have you noticed a need to dose that much daily ? Did you ever try a lower dose and not notice anything , or have you always used this higher dose?

Thanks for pointing that out. I will check with him (see http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24496345&postcount=1265)

His original PM to me stated, "Start the koral color and dose at 1ml per 30 gal of actual water total volume in the whole system - not the display volume only." So I have kept it at that level.

Bitwise:

I'm really diggin' the fish room.

Thanks. it has been an evolution over the years.

Nice Greg

Thanks. More to come in the future.

Here are a couple of frags I'm working on:
1. Cali tort. Started out as just the residual plate after removing the main frag. Now outgrowing the base and I need to plant it somewhere:

Here is another nameless that started out as a brown turd and now slowly coloring up. Any ideas on what it is?

Have a few more for the future. Hopefully with a better camera.

I love getting cheap $5 or $10 brown frags and seeing what they turn out to be. That one you got looks like it's going to be amazing! Nice Cali tort too, great color.
