Quiverfull's Biggle Juice Expeeiment

Just be aware ESV calcium has trace elements.....they don't state what's in it. Koral color doesn't say what it contains as well.

Ed, your warnings are well taken. I'm watching carefully for signs of problems. I was definitely overdosing the KoralColor. Since I cut back things are looking better. I think your absolutely right about watching long term as things build up in the system overtime and show effects later. I try to do only one thing at a time and the wait for months before changing anything else unless a problem comes up. Patience, attention to detail and persistence is the name of the game in this hobby. I really appreciate and value your input. Thanks.

Rakie:

Here is the image of the same coral in another system I have. I know the growth pattern is different but this was another frag of the original colony and is what the "unknown" used to look like before I started the additives in my main system. Also, to be fair, this one is under LED lighting but they were identical in color at one time.

Dipping toe into AF...

Dipping toe into AF...

Well ... given the apparent incredible success of those that I have watched using the AF product line, I have started to switch my salt over from IO Reef Crystals to the AF ProBiotic reef salt. I started this this past month with 3 water changes of 10 to 15%. I have noticed a little bit of cyano accumulating since I did this but I have also changed my MH bulbs (violated my own rule at changing more than one thing at a time). I am going to watch what happens and measure my NO3 and PO4 as these have always been 0. Have not started NP pro or Bio S.

Despite the cyano, the corals appear to be doing well and have noticed a few with more prominent PE. I am still dosing Lugol's at 1.5 drops per day and KoralColor at 2ml and 1ml alternating days and ESV 2 part. Alk is heading down to NSW levels at 7.0 and Ca at 390. Used to run 8.0-8.5 and 400-420.

Any input from those following is appreciated.

Added 2 new frags - ORA Pearlberry and Purple polyp aculeus - pictures to come!

390 Cal isn't a little too low?

I've been seeing some good results from AF users too. When I first heard of AF it was described to me as "Poor mans Zeovit", but after reading it seems solid. My only complaint from those I've spoken with is a lot of their products are watered down in comparison to KZ. For instance -- someone told me with Micro E they had to do 4-5x dosage to equal KZ's Zeospur 2.

- After seeing a difference from higher Micro E dosage, colors improved
- AcroPower mysteriously started kicking *** after Micro E results started showing
- I overdosed Lugols and all my SPS got a green tint -_- Micro E is helping it go away

AF Reef Salt is going to be my next salt purchase.

Micro e shouldn't be used to get results like zeospur 2, just my opinion. As far as I am aware zeospur 2 is for expelling zoox to pastel or lighten corals. That means it has a good copper content to it, or most likely. The Micro e has just trace amounts of copper (from what I have noticed from dosing) which is not for expelling zoox. The energy product from AF contains the right amount of copper to lighten or pastel coral colors, and I like how it's mixed with some good stuff as well.

Greg, great looking tank buddy! I too am in central Ohio, and am new to the SPS bug as before I have always had LPS and softies. I would love to come check out your tank and maybe pick your brain a little bit.

Piper you're right! I hadn't heard of the Energy product -- After reading it that sounds like exactly what I was looking for.

I like a lot of what I'm seeing from Aquaforest. Everything seems high quality, and not many reefers walk away unsatisfied, however...

- Too many vaguely named bottles, it's nearly like "Reef Turbo-booster!" (Magnesium)

- Refined explanation of what products do would benefit users, especially if products contain mixtures of chems not found in competitors products

- They could use a few packages to get users started off on the right foot. Basic packages like Beginner/Basic package, Intermediate package, Shut up and take my money package, etc

- Names and pictures of products seem to be somewhat interchangeable, which makes things further confusing. That may be a vendor issue though.

- I think a simple and concise tagline under the name of each product would be a significant improvement; "For Improving Red & Blue Pigmentation", etc.

I'm a super busy student. In some cases to find out what a product really does I either need to PM and bother a member here, Ask Aquaforest (They've ignored 2 of my questions, they're 0-2 so far) and hunt for reviews.

Inside the package of each product there is a paper that describes what is in each product. They have little books that tell what all products are and their purposes. They changed the names on their products a while back which made a lot of confusion.

But their reply on their forums are straight up horrible. If it wasn't for Perry and a few others I bet they would have lost a lot of customers buisness. I am sure a lot of people feel ignored sometimes. I wish they could resolve this with someone who can give detailed explanations of how to transfer from one product to AF or say what is best in a given situation. It's supposed to be a simpler method so doing this will defiantly attract more people who don't have time or the will to look up and read stuff all day on a given subject just to get an answer they are not sure of.

Fair enough! I only purchased one AF item and it didn't come with a little paper. It's cool it was supposed to, but id prefer to have the ability to read those before purchase.

I also didn't see any of the little books mentioned before, I'll have to go through the AF site more carefully. Thanks for the info Piper

It's nice. Quiver full I haven't seen a tricolor with that base color, it looks whitish grey. Or is it green? I am kind of colorblind. Looks a little different growth too, is it a validia do you think?

I really don't know what it is. I should have asked the guy but he was trimming back a lot of his corals and gave me several pieces for free. Look at the macro shot on post #81. It is the second of image. I would have to say the the deeper branch roots have a greenish tinge but also some pink as you can see. I have cut my Lugol's down to 1 drop per day because the greens were kinda of getting out of hand.

Got a couple new frags from another fellow reefer nearby

Had some issues with my Alk as well - not as bad as Matt's (Reefmutt) but I've upped my 2 part and am monitoring. Corals overall are looking pretty good. Cyano outbreak is holding stable. I'm hoping the higher alk will help that as well.

Glad to hear you caught the alk drop earlier than Matt did Greg. Those two pieces you got from another reefer are rippers mate, seriously yummy

Oh man.. these are nice and that's a big frag of pearlberry.
Mine just went brown.. it may be a goner. I'm going to have to source another pearlberry. It is such an amazing coral!
