Quoyi parrot feeding

Some good advice here. I went though something similar when I first started out. Ended up having to break down my tank, and treat all of my fish. In a separate tank while my DT sat fallow. End result is that I know that I have a disease free tank...

Best advice moving forward is to read the stickies and stock up on a few extra tanks for QT and HT. Keep some media in your sump to set them up when needed, or keep them running. I always try to advise people to set up a QT before or at the same time as your DT. Your fish can go through QT in the separate tank at the same time that your DT cycles...

Best of Luck!!!

Yep I agree. I'm getting my qt tank (albeit too late). Issue for me is catching the fish. I have large rocks glued together. And then size of qt is my question given my fish. Namely the two angels and the parrot

Have a tunze ato. Have refractometer and calibrating fluid. I'll do it for four weeks. Recommended salinity 1.08???

I've read not to let it get above 1.009 otherwise it resets the clock.

I'm pretty sure you meant 1.008 not 1.08 :D

Question about refractometer ... Shouldn't you calibrate it closer to the salinity that is target? So mine is calibrated for 1.024. Will it be accurate at 1.008?

Reef tanks should be at 1.026 so when you're finished will need to bring that up. What are you using to calibrate it with? There is a liquid that is made to calibrate at 1.026 and then there is another that is 0. Doesn't matter which you use as long as it's calibrated to something that is a known value. Then make sure you don't go over 1.009 what ever you do don't go over that or you will have to start all over. Hypo does work but it takes time and its very specific Have you read anything on doing hypo? If so what?

I've started reading today. For ick in dt where all fish are impossible to remove and copper can't be used as corals and inverts will be in there after treatment is over.

Lower the levels slowly so you don't shock your fish and coral. I'm not a big fan of fighting ich in the DT where fish still live, but you gotta do what you gotta do...

Raise the levels slowy for the same reasons. Monitor the levels several times daily as well.

If you have Corals and Inverts in your display tank you cannot treat it with hypo salinity. The fish can tolerate the lower salinity levels but you will kill your Corals and Inverts and then have an ammonia spike and kill the fish.

Though I've seen inverts survive in very low salinity, I'm not sure how long they'd be happy in it. Better safe than sorry. Good catch Philly guy...

Come out in the middle of the night and turn on the lights. The fish will be groggy and blinded from the light and be easy to catch when they come out to see what's going on.

use a bottle trap.
If the inverts you are trying to catch are larger than the 'stem', cut it off to the smallest point where they can fit through.
They get in, have a hard time trying to figure out how to get out. Add some food, let it sit overnight.
