No worries... parrots seem to be one of the most horribly misidentified, if identified at all, types of fish. Do you know how many species of parrotfish have some sort of orange color on their sides? :lol:

A lot, LOL. I noticed someone bought the steephead off of DD... I was looking at info/pictures of them and wow do they get BIG. DD had the max size listed at 1ft 6", pictures I saw via Google showed them looking much larger than that! You couldn't be more right about parrots being misidentified. They are either a princess or a Quoyi when in fact they end up being neither
I am getting a little worried now - my rivulatus hasn't really stated eating yet; it has been in the tank for 3.5 weeks and I've only seen him sample some food once. Did you have to do any kind of training or did yours just start eating naturally?
I know mine was eating well enough at DD because his shipping bag came filled with the evidence. I've been overfeeding the tank to make sure enough pellet food stays around after other fish have gotten their fill, and I leave to room so he isn't scared off. I've used NLS 1mm, ON Formula One small pellet, Rods Food, nori floating and rubber banded to a rock, and frozen mysis.
Should I wait it out longer?

Not all 4" fish are created equal. This thing is fat as a cigar!
The wrasses didn't even look at him twice so I released him into the wild. Oddly enough, the little annularis tried to give him grief but finally just gave up. He was getting no where.
He's already taken flake...I'm about to go feed mysis. Fingers crossed he takes them on the first day. He is obviously happy to be around live rock again as he is swimming around nibbling on the rock.
Total stunner!

My quoyi from DD took about 3-4 weeks to start eating, as I recall. Never really became a bold eater (see my post above about his untimely passing).

Does your Quoyi eat pellets out of the water column or only "graze" pellets sitting on the bottom? Will they have a problem with sand if they have to pick food off it?

I only feed frozen in my tank but my Quoyi eats out of the water column with as much aggression as my other fish (tangs, wrasse, copperband butterfly, blennies, etc.)

Both and no the parrot doesn't eat much if any sand. Parrots are responsible for a lot of sand in the ocean as it is and if you watch your parrot there will be nothing but sand poop anyway

That's a nice fish, but yeah, it's big. That green parrotfish they've got is a monster too. No such thing as a big enough tank!

Have you contacted NYA? I'm guessing princess parrot, not bowersi.
BTW, look up the species... threatened! There is a reason, I suspect, you don't see them often... shame... they are so pretty.
